We've had this stovetop since we bought our house. We have natural gas and our heater and water heater work fine.
The burners burn a nice even blue flame, but it just doesn't cook as hot as I think it should.
It takes about 15 min to get 6 qt of water to a boil and when you add pasta to it, it knocks the boil down to a simmer. It also leaves a funky brown film on the burner trays (or whatever you call those things under the burners)
I thought about just getting a new stovetop, but $600 would go a long way toward some fishing gear and a new book for my Wife!
I've been told I might have a propane jet in a stove meant for natural gas.
Does this sound right and how do I tell? Is it easy to replace?
Would appreciate any help!

Find a manual for your stovetop on line if you can and find out if it was designed for both nat gas and propane and whether there is a flame and/or air adjustment proceedure and follow it.

Also you can find out how to access the orfices (jets). There should be a number stamped on each orfice which should be listed in the manual. It could be that your have the wrong orfice. Maybe they put a 10,000 btu orfice in a 15,000 btu burner or a propane orfice.

The "funky brown film" is incomplete combustion from not getting enough air. You normally see this when pushing propane through too large an orfice. Your case is a puzzle.

I agree thats its probably not adjusted right. If you leary of doing this yourself, hire someone to come look at it and make the adjustments. You will be very happy you did it if they can get it running right for you.
