Over the past few weeks I've been out there during the pistol packing wee hours of the night searching for them crappie. Tonight I fished from around 12 am until it started getting daylight around 6 am. The number of lifters exceeded the netters but I guess that is to be expected. The best 2 crappie were a 13" black and a 13 1/2" white. I believe 31 fish got sore lipped in total with 25 being crappie, 2 white bass, 4 yellow bass.
Here is something that I have found to be very strange. This being a white crappie dominate lake , the white crappie seem to be all but nonexistent during the night. Almost every crappie I've caught after dark has been blacks. Hmmm
Colors receiving the bite were Glo Yellow/White and one of my favorites Orange/Chartreuse with a 1/16 Double Cross jig head. Been putting the Double Cross jig head to the field test. Costs a bit more but so far so good. Comes in 1/32, 1/16, and 1/8th. I will include a pic of the design.

Gene, the guys that really crappie fish use a drop of super glue to hold their plastics on.

Way to go, Gene. I love your reports. Interesting jig design. Where do you get them? emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Dicks Sporting Goods, Lelands Lures.com, Ebay, and certain Wal Mart stores.
If you know me you know I am always looking for a better mouse trap. I chose to demo these jigs to see if perhaps we could possibly eliminate the application of glue to our bait.
On the very first jig I found out I could catch over 40 crappie on one jig and never pull the plastic down without a single dab of glue ever being applied. The tail eventually got pulled off and body had to be replaced.
I still have several other bodies and styles of plastics to use with this jig before I give it a final sizing up. But In the mean time, I thought I would share these jigs with the crappie community that has shared so much with me.

emoTeacher learned something new with the post, thanks for sharing Gene! Did you try out those boards yet your daughter won at Roper's Tx?

I'm surprised you remember that. It was a nice prize she won along with the fishing reel and baits.
Was her lucky day for sure. I wasn't as lucky that day I recall.
Anyhow yes I did attempt to put the ole planer board out and catch a mega load of crappie back in the spring but for some reason I could not seem to get it to run correctly. Don't know exactly whats causing the issue. Perhaps I need a planer board 101 lesson from someone in the know.

Good report.........What kind of lights do you use?

The only light I used to fish with was an ultra violet led cap light that you see in that one photo. It's not a very good photo but you know its not an easy task to take a self photo in the dark. The uv black light makes my fluorescent line glow so I can see and detect bites better. I also use a green led pen light in and around the boat for other tasks. It is small enough to hold in my teeth when I'm removing hooks or measuring fish then put it back in my pocket when I'm through. Not that I'm recommending anyone else do that. I have a Samsung S3 phone and it does not have a flash when the camera is reversed so I used the green pen light to get enough light for that one shot. I will have to figure something else out if I want better night photos.
