I am going to buy a generator to power several lights for bowfishing at night. I want to buy a used one and try to keep it under $400. Probably looking at about 3000 watt generator. I would like to run 7 possibly 8 halogen work lights on the front and side of the boat. Question 1: would 150watt work lights cut into the water and approx how bright will they be for my application. Question 2: would a 3000 watt generator handle the continuous load of the lights with 1200 watts. I'm not sure if that is how you figure this up or would it be more despite the 8 times 150 watts. If so I would probably get 250 watt work lights. Question 3: Do I need a converter or anything or just plug them into a strip and plug them into the generator. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks
James

A thought - wouldn't running 120 V AC current be pretty dangerous on a relatively small boat? It is an electrocution hazard in wet environments.

I have a QUALITY Honda generator, 3000W I can sell you. It's been serviced after every use and if something breaks down on it we will fix it for normal shop labor.

PM me if interested - but it will be more than $400.

EricM, You would think so but I'm hoping to keep it dry or as best as possible. Not that sure about all of it. I am ready to do some night time bowfishing. I know its a common practice among bow fisherman.

Picked up a generator at Tractor Supply for $199. Small 2000 watt which is half the size and weight of the 3000. Going to get four 250 watt work lights and two 150 watt.

You can get by with 350W Ultra halogen bulbs instead of the 150's they will put out as much as a 500, but cost a little more. OR if you wanted you could go with higher cost High Pressure Sodium lights and get away a smaller generator.

The generator sound/vibration doesn't scare away the fish?

No carp are stupid fish...

You would be suprised at the bass that dont spook ive watched many of 10 plus lb bass especially on gville just sit there as we go by them....

Of course bowfisherman dont shoot bass crappie or any game fish for that matter...
