OK. I have just completly re-seeded my back yard and it is looking great, except for all the holes that th squirrels are digging in it for acorns. I know squirrel season is open and I could just shoot them with a pellet gun (i live in a neighborhood, so a .22 is out), but I have no desire to et them, and don;t want to kill them for waste.

Any other ideas to get rid of them?

Leave them alone. They do not cause that much damage in the long run to your yard. If they were getting into your attic or destroying your bird feeders then take action. They find that soft soil much easier to dig than the dry rock hard soil everywhere else. When the fresh nuts are no longer available it will end. That's just nature. enjoy it.

C - 4 works really well too! Don't worry about them! They will not cause any harm to your lawn. Just watch them play and enjoy! Heck, my wife feeds them whole pecans!

Set out bowls of antifreeze. lol they will die off slowly. just watch your dog tho.

No-don't do that! If your'e gonna kill them, do it quick! I had a stray dog show up at my house that was anti-freezed and my wife took it into the clinic she worked at. Because we weren't wiiling to put the into money into it, it suffered until the vet just put it down for free!

You should probably just let them be... squirrels don't harm anything, and they're kinda cute. Whatever you do, don't do the dog/gun thing... and definitely not the antifreeze thing.

What about the sling shot thing?

Good for cooking too. I have cooked (warmed/heated) thousands of meals and cups of coffee over burning chunks of C-4.

When we couldn't get C-4 we'd check out extra Claymore Mines and take them apart for the C-4.

Loved the squirrel slinging! I wonder how hard it would be to rig a c02 cannon like they shoot t-shirts into the grandstands with? emoScratch

You probably will not be able to reduce the population. I live in a rural area where one of my neighbors set out to reduce the population of squirrels one summer. He trapped and then shot more than twenty squirrels before he gave up the project. It seems that they attain a population saturation for an area and if that number is reduced then more squirrels move in from adjacent areas.
