With deer season and Fall right around the corner my mind is drifting to cooler mornings sitting on the stand watching mother nature and all her glory. The thoughts of sitting around a camp fire that evening and telling tall tales of deer hunts of the past that seem to get bigger with each passing year. ;) The ones we got and the ones that got away. Seeing family and old friends that often are only seen that time of year. The afternoon success of seeing what everyone did or did not do. The partnering up around the skinning poles to get the after kill work done. emoThumbsup Good times and looking forward to them this year more then normal for some reason. May be the cooler days and nice mornings. Here are a few pictures to get you in the mood. emoTongue Jmax

Wishing everyone a great and safe hunting season this year. emoAngel

Happiness during deer season is a large gut pile. emoBigsmile(last picture)

Re: Getting the itch, pictures worth a thousand words.

My neck is already swelling up.....

I remember dragging deer for miles up around the Adirondacks in NY. What I would have given for an ATV back then...snow up to a Giraffe's Arse, sweating up a storm, breaking through thin ice in a small stream..then seeing the truck! Cool pics, don't hunt too much anymore, miss being in the woods more than anything..

Funny I read this. Just got done eating BBQ I made from a roast that came from a deer we shot last year. Yummy.

Me too, I remember those days. You might have to track one for miles and then drag it all the way back to the first road that could be driven. Then hike all the way back to the truck and you would drive around where you could get the closest to the deer. We were very excited when the "Big Red" three wheeler came out and we got one for the camp. Suddenly being able to drive in after them made the work after so much easier. Now with four wheelers and brush hogs to cut trails we don't work half as hard as we use to. emoRolleyes Most of our hunt areas allow you to drive right to the deer downed.

I got trail cam pics of that last 8 pointer pictured...lol....you dirty dog

Your welcome. emoLaugh There is another big boy working that area again. Let me know if you have any troubles this year, I will be glad to help you out again. emoBigsmile Jmax

P.S., If any of you ever go hunting with Churly beware of rags left around the skinning tree. emoTskTsk They are not there for shinning like you would think. Who craps at the same place you clean your deer? Churly! Poop Boy! emoPoke

I have tons of trail cam pics from the place where Jmax's deer like to spend their summer/early fall. I'll post em when I get to a pc

Looks like jmax takes care of his share of them!!!!

Thanks, I have been deer hunting for about 40 years in AR, TX, OK, VA and TN. I have had more then my share of deer hunts, I consider myself very blessed to have had all those opportunities. I have been a co-owner of a deer camp in AR since about 1981. My partner and I have a lot of deer but none of us who hunt there live there anymore so it is not managed well. We just let Mother Nature do her thing, International Paper cut trees when needed and keep our logging roads cleared. Years ago we use to put out food plots and feeders which are legal in that state but anymore it is just an excuse to get together to hunt and visit. emoAngel Between my family and his we have about seven or eight show up to hunt there each year. It is a lot of fun and good times. Not many trophy bucks but a lot of nice deer. Southern Arkansas has it's share of deer, you can kill six each with two bucks and four does. I usually just try and kill two legal bucks which is at least three points on one side. I try to do six points or better. The hunting pressure of south Arkansas is really strong so really big bucks are hard to come by. Some camps that have large amounts of property do an eight point rule but we do not have enough property to do that and the biggest camp that surrounds us will just about shoot anything. emoRolleyes I find it hard to decide what to do in the early fall, deer hunt or fish? emoScratch It is some of the best fishing during that time but also some great bow and black powder hunts can be found that time of year. Life is sure hard.... emoBigsmile Jmax
