Dropped in the water and got some quick bait off the Shadman at 10:30 am Sunday. We ran up into the boil behind the spillways casting threadfin for 4.5 hours. Caught 500 lbs of drum between us. Fun and tiring but we were hoping for stripers and cats. Other than the drum, we mixed in just one striper, a few white bass and a 12# flathead. Dropped the boys off and headed back for a couple more hours. Found they'd increased the flow out of the spillway until it was all but unfishable. Chased off completely by the late evening storm.
Started fresh again on Monday morning. Could only catch small threads near the boat ramp but used what I caught. Had a tough time working below the power generation as the didn't have the spillway active. Once that opened, we picked up where we left off catching a few dozen ~10# drum. Added two blue cats and a 3.5# largemouth.
Then they let the spillways go and washed us out for good. Always a different experience below the dam. All fish released.
Great time and an experience my boys will never forget. Next time I gotta figure out where to find the big threadfins and why the lack of stripes. Next year...
