Fished Brendelin Monday to catch some crappie. Put in at daylight and was idling along Interstate side. There was four gill nets stretched out for 75 yds from interstate side about 100 yds apart . Might want to be careful in there running before good light. A couple wouldn't marked well. Left and came back in a couple of hours and they were gone.

I thought so too! I didn't see the first one and got my prop hung in it. They had the rip rap covered. I didn't see any other Trucks in the parking lot when I ran down the lake at about 8 oclock. I came back to Brendaline at 10 and they were gone and one other guy was putting in. There were several camping but didn't see any boats.

Eric...If you're on I-24 going West towards Nashville, it's the big area of water on the right just as you pass the welcome center. You can also see a launch ramp and a camping area there too.

No restrictions on where you can place nets except they cannot completely close off the mouth of any inlet or slough.

Was wondering if there is a size restriction on the nets. These looked to be about 2" squares. Also there looked to be no name tags where they were tied off. Whoever set them they knew about the culverts that run under the interstate.

Anything under 3 inch squares is illegal. Most spoonbill nets are 5" squares. I'm sure that they are setting shallow trying to catch the cats moving in to bed. This is usually the only time of year that you will see nets this shallow. Most commercial fisherman will pick up before daylight to not run the risk of getting their equipment stolen cut up. You can set across a slough or cove as long as you are deep enough. You must also have a nameplate on your pick-up marker. These are given to you when you purchase a commercial fishing license.

I hate to be rude, but most of what you will find on Nickajack is illegal.....no names, less than 3 inches, etc etc. I think it should illegal period.
