Ginseng

Don't know where you are planning on hunting, Georgia has a specified ginseng season, Sept. 1st - dec. 31 and you must have written landowner permission, plus other regulations regarding size of plants legal to be harvested. Georgia DNR is pretty strict on ginseng digging. Just a little info.

i did not know that digging up ginseng was such a big thing i have seen it on some of my family property and have helped a few friends dig some of it up where would one sell the stuff

What you a episode of Appalachian outlaws. Then you'll see how big of a deal some people take it. It's all scripted but there's still some serious money to be made.

You sell to a first level buyer, who in turns sells it to the wholesaler, then they sell to the manufactures who use it in products all over the world.

Sang For personal use pretty safe =not dealing with other people. But digging on land that isn't yours even if you have permission is dangerous /it not a game

I've actually found some in north Ga but hardly enough to go back and dig for. I've heard of prices as high as $200 a pound for it! If you knew of a buyer and the right sized patch it could pay well.

It's over $200 and ounce! But it's illegal to dig now as season is closed

Shows how much I know huh? A guy could make a good check pretty quick with those kind of prices.

1000.00 BUCKS A POPUND DRY..lol

I've read from multiple sources that it takes anywhere from 300-350 dry roots to make a pound. At $100/lb, that around $3.00 per root. Not bad... But like I said, it takes a lot.

You have to have a LOT of ground available to make any money. its certainly not a get rich quick gig.
If you will notice, the vast majority of diggers are dirt poor, yea they can make money during dig season, but its shortlived and a hard life climbing those mountains.

Appalachian Outlaws is an awesome show even if it is scripted. Those guys are nuts.
