goin in gear

1995 Merc 2.5 150 shift to go foward may not go in gear good move rpm's up cause boat is moving but you get a hard thump depending on how high rpm's are soft or hard. reverse no problem . it's like its not goin in gear all the way if you know what I mean . feather the rpm's and it will go in gear once in it has never just come out??????

May be a adjustment or the clutchdog lugs are round off. How do you shifts???Easy or hard???

I normanly shift soft butt have tried hard turn up rpm to shift hard if thats what you are saying

another guy said he had to get another control box my control box ant like his
my motor 2.5 XR6 150 1995 on a 95 18ft nitro if that matters

I was asking if you shift "SLOW" . This causes additonal wear on clutchdog lug and rounds them off.

A 84 control box will shift a 99 engine just the same and vice versa. Only if you have control box with worn out componets do you then you have a problem. There are a few reasons for you problem. The strangest on I had was the shift spool was gauled in the propshaft. Simplest one was a adjustment but I have seen anything from everything in between. Just my thoughts...

I've had the boat acouple of years and it don't all the time seems more when it's cold I have been very gentle if it dont go all the way in @1100 rpm I slow back to about 800 and slowly and steady bring back up and it will be therein gear so I go fishing emoSmile emoSmile emoSmile
