going to the beach?

If you like a quiet non-busy beach, try Cape San Blas. We went there over the summer and had a great time. No condos or many businesses. Just vacation rentals and sand/water. They have a convenience store and bait shop and a couple small restaurants. About 45 minutes outside of Panama City beach near Mexico Beach. Great place to relax. This year we are hitting Panama City Beach.

Skull Island Campground has a dandy little beach and some fine fishing nearby! emoPoke emoBigsmile emoBigsmile

Jekyll Island (GA), Kiawah Island, Surfside Beach (SC), Wrightsville Beach (NC), and as a last resort ... Tybee Island (GA), but our last trip there may have been the last. We like anywhere where the crowds are low in the SC / GA Lowcountry. I haven't been to the gulf in years, but PC Beach used to be a good locale for lowriders and airbrushed tees...

Jekyll is still tops in our book.

I agree with Jekyll Island...we lived there for 2 years. The island is only 30% developed per government regulations. A lot of cool history and things to see there. We were almost always the only ones on the beach too. You could walk miles and not see anyone.

I'd agree with JTF on Islamorada ... of course I'd also agree on the drive. The Keys are like nowhere else, but when you're there you feel at home. There's just a good vibe. If I ever disappear or go into witness protection, I'll likely be found in the Keys.

Corey - you LIVED on Jekyll? If so, you may be the only one under the age of 84 to ever do so! The only downside to Jekyll is the total lack of good dining. We always pack our grill and go buy fresh stuff to grill back at the condo or campground. We finally found a good place in Brunswick where we could buy shrimp right off of the boat as they unloaded. The plus is that there is great eating over on St Simons. Besides the seclusion, the next best thing about Jekyll are the rates ... especially if you go before Memorial Day or after Labor Day.

Since Cape San Blas was mentioned, I'll say that my parents went on a scouting trip for us there last year and came back with rave reviews. Quiet, scenic, and clean, but maybe a tad pricey. The Gulf tends to be a little more $ in my experience though.

I stayed at a nice place on Daphin? Island back in 01. It was awesome. Great fishing pier right there, and I caught reds, flounder, trout....

I dont have a clue if the place is still there after Katrina, but I am sure there are still places to stay.</p>

We rented a duplex on Jekyll island...it was quite nice. I worked in Brunswick at an orthopedic office. The drive wasn't bad either...scenery is great down there. I agree with RR about the dining...you can load up on St. Simons though. Also, I never had much luck fishing from the surf. Only caught bonnethead sharks and catfish. Foodsaver, if you are planning on fishing on your vacation, you might want to check into guides if you are staying around Jekyll.

Cape San Blas was great this last summer. We rented a house that had walking distance to both the surf and the bay. We caught quite a few trout on topwater in the bay. The only drawback was again the dining. We drove into Port St. Joe (20 mins) a couple nights to get groceries and/or eat out. However, there is a little seafood shack halfway between the two on 30A. Best prices I've ever seen on seafood...and right off the boat. We got fresh snapper for $5 per pound!

Sorry to hijack...good luck Foodsaver

destin fla,if you wnt to go to a place were its a little calm more laid back, not a place were the younger crowd hangs out.and the beach its beautiful.

We are going to Mexico Beach, FL. in early June for the first time , And we always make a trip to St Augustine and stay out on Anistaisia Isl camping, if you like to camp this is one of my favorite campgrounds, big old oaks everywhere and you have about 3 miles of beach that is just for the camp ground, usually only about 50 people on the beach,
and of course St Augustine is full of great things to see, great food, the old fort ,losts of old bildings, shoping for moma and great fishing around the inlets...
Puddle...emoUSA

Man im ready for it to warm up already...

The wife and kids and I go to the destin area 3 or 4 times every year. We stay on okaloosa island. Never large crowds. Most of the folks are family oriented. Great food and plenty to do. Highly recommend !!!

BTW.... I also lived on Jekyll and I'm way under the age of 84 !!!emoSun

Just around the corner from Mexico Beach is a place called St George Island. it is in the Apalachacola Bay. I rent from a place called Collinns Vacation rentals and stay in a private gated community called the plantation. Staying there gives you access to Sikes Cut.

Last time we were there (December 07) this is what my dad caught at the cut

Emerald Isle, NC a fisherman's paradise. Its laid back and family oriented, not at all like the redneck riviera down south.
