:) Anybody have any suggestions for crappie. I haven't been on the lake since early january and we need a mess of those pretty lil fishes. Not often I get to take off much less when it's suppose to be pretty and light wind.
Anyone going tomorrow, polodog, Dhaun, anybody.
We hope to be at Chester Frost around 11:30 or noon.

I wish I could go tomorrow...but I'll be stuck in a cube. Based on everything I learned last week on the forum and from also talking to 2 reliable anglers this week I understand from Stevenson to Dayton has the crappie up on flats at the creek mouths... I hope to get out sometime soon though to find out for myself so Good Luck and please let us know how you do!

I caught some good ones on a brush pile next to the creek channel in Wolftever. I haven't ever fished Chester Frost for crappies but know that there has been brush in the past on the second point on the right inside the mouth where you come into the creek from the river. I guess that would be on the left going out. I would expect that the crappies will be on flats in the 8-12 foot range if they are in the same areas as they are in Wolftever. If you know of stumpbeds that are deeper than 8 feet and are near the channels I would bet that you would find some. Let us know how you do.

We've been trolling 1/16 ounce jigs (hot pink) tipped with Squimin Squirts and Minnow Tubes (Bluegill)in the flats (8'-10' water); using 4# and 6# test line at a speed of about 1 mph in flats not too far from the creek channel. As far as crappie go, it is at least an old wives tale, they will come up for a bait but they won't go down; you can fish below them and not have luck. Of late, we have had much better luck between 9:00am - 1:00 pm; maybe you can change that tomorrow since you're not fishing til 11:30 or noon.

I'm glad that your observations were similar to mine enmreal. It looks to me like there are lots of crappies on the flats 1/3 to 1/2 way back into Wolftever. There are shallower flats farther back but I haven't been back that far into the creek. Is seems like the activity level is slowly but surely moving back into the creek for the last 2-4 weeks.
