Someone picked up my mini iPad 4G while I was trying on shoes at my favorite store. Tried to find it with help of the associates. Activated the Find My iPhone app on my deactivated iPhone (as I now save $40/mo using my mini iPad as my phone) at a WiFi hotspot. It showed that it was still at my favorite store near the manager's area. So drive back to store, tell associates and managers it is still here somewhere. No comments, just funny looks and a lot of busy looking around.
I could tell I wasn't getting anywhere, so leave store and go back to WiFi hotspot. iPad shows on app that it's still at store so I put iPad into LOST mode which locks screen with password, and adds message on screen saying to please call this number to report it found. LOST mode also starts tracking the phone everywhere it goes instead of just locating it in a single location.
I head home and my wife who happened to be near my favorite store drives by, and starts playing a sound on my lost iPad from the app. Nothing. More playing sound. Nothing. More playing sound. Nothing, and she thanks associates for their help and leaves. Suddenly, I'm watching my iPad move around in the store as I watch her iPhone head to the parking lot. It's the first time I've seen the iPad move. I call her and tell her to go back inside and head to the manager's area.
At the same time I get a call at home that they found my iPad. Story is that someone had found my iPad earlier and had put it in a place other than the regular lost and found spot (safe). When we started playing the sound they found where the associate had put it (in the wrong spot).
So happy to Find My iPad. Thanks to all the associates, my wife, and the Find My iPhone app.
