I went to C and O today and picked up my new Allison Craft BasSport Pro with 250XS. I ran the dog out of the truck to get home in time to get a little seat time while it was warm. I put in at the riverpark at about 2:30 and off I went by myself. Let me tell you, this is nothing like driving a Stratos! I think all of the people fishing in the river were having fun watching me "try" to drive this thing. I got it up to 79 several times and 82 once but with just me and a full tank of gas it was hard to keep it in the water. It doesn't walk the same way other boats I have had do. I think I actually made it worse when I tried to correct it. The steering doesn't have any play and though it is hydraulic it is engineered to provide feedback. Kinda weird after driving traditional hydraulics since 01. After about thirty minutes I decided to trailer it and go home and love on it for a while but then fishnvol called and we decided to go drive it some more. I wanted to see if it would be better with two fat guys and it did. I was able to make one wot pass and it shot right up to 83mph and drove pretty good without much input. I actually think I may not be trimming it enough because when I do it gets really high out of the water. Hopefully I will learn to drive it. The water on the chick was pretty rough which is what I wanted. The ride of this thing is amazing. Smooth as silk and the consoles knock 90 percent of the air off of you! We drove over some swells from a cabin cruiser at about 50 and got most of the boat out of the water several times but it almost feels like it was coming down on a cushion. The boat has a very deep V bottom. Overall I am very impressed and have no second thoughts. I can't wait until I actually learn to drive it!
