during the CFF 3, I used a garmin map 76 handheld. I got a program from garmin called "U.S. recreational lakes". It worked great. It shows the bouys in the creeks, the contour lines, and fishing hotspots. I was suprised at how accurate it was.

They are impressive.... I'm just waiting to hear about somebody crashing the boat however because they were "watchin' the GPS" rather than "watchin' where they were goin'." emoLaugh emoLaugh

Or watchin gps and not depth finder.. in winter .. oops was that a rock pile I just tore out bottom of boat .. nah gps says it 5ft here lol

I had a co-pilot/navigator to watch the gps. I don't think I'll be drivin and watchin gps and a depth findr, I am not that coordinated. It was quite helpful for knowing where creeks are in relation to position.

jon its a good idea to have a co-pilot with the handheld units. The gps gives fairly accurate info but just remember to download the proper lake or area as some of the details don't show on smaller lakes like Parksville. You can load the county and it will give a better perspective of the lake.

I wish they would provide those maps for laptops.. I have a waterproof laptop .. and a usb gps puck.. now if I could just find the lake maps to use without buying additional hardware

NRG, LOWRANCE HAS SYSTEM CALLED MAPCREATE NOW IN VERSION 6.3....AND I HAVE IT ON MY COMPUTER AND PUT IT ON MY LAPTOP LAST SUMMER WHEN I WENT ON A NEAR MONTH LONG VACATION TOUR OF THE WEST...IT IS EXTREMELY VERSATILE AND PRETTY ACCURATE..TOO MUCH TO TELL YOU ABOUT ON HERE BUT FOR THE LAKE STUFF THERE ARE MORE DETAILED CARDS YOU CAN LOAD ON YOUR GPS AND/OR COMPUTER...BUT YOU`LL STILL HAVE TO HAVE A RECEIVER. I PUT MY GPS /SONAR IN MY TRUCK FOR MY TRIP AND IT WAS INVALUABLE..CHECK OUT LOWRANCE .COM

Does mapcreate aloow navigation of lakes ..  with contours creeks etc off of your laptop ?? I have Microsoft Streets 2005 w/GPS usb puck , I want to be able to use my laptop for lake charts navigation, my Humminbird Matrix has is GPS capable .. but ya have to buy the gps puck at additional cost ebay 99 bucks. I will check out map create .. but I thought was just to create and modify maps for Lowrance hardware.

IT HAS A GOOD ENOUGH LAKE MAP TO RUN THE LAKES WITH...SHOWS THE CENTER OF DEEP WATER AREA WITH A LINE THAT YOU CAN LINE UP YOUR ARROW AND IT WILL KEEP YOU IN THE DEEPEST WATER....USED IT ABOVE RICHLAND CREEK IN SOME SLOUGHS THAT I WAS NERVOUS ABOUT RUNNING IN...FOR FISHING CONTOURS AND THE LIKE I HAVE A "FISHING HOT SPOTS ELITE " MMC/SD CARD THAT OVERLAYS ON THE MAP CREATE......MAP CREATE HAS SIX CD`S THAT COVER THE ENTIRE U.S....AN AMAZING AMOUNT OF INFO...YOU CAN LOAD UP AS MUCH AS YOU NEED ...IT`LL TELL YOU HOW MANY WENDY`S HAMBURGER JOINTS ARE ON EACH EXIT AND A WHOLE LOT MORE
