Guys I am tickled to announce phase 1 of our aquatic vegetation control project. Whats got me so happy is that TVA is willing to work with local fishermen to explore alternatives to using herbicides to control the grass. Phase 1 of the project will involve placing growth barriers(black mats) in areas that the grass becaomes a nuisance. TVA has purchased these 12'x60' mats for us to put down around the docks at Chesterfrost Park. We are scheduled to do this at 6:30pm next wednesday evening(June 22) at Chesterfrost park. I wont need but a half a dozen bodies to help, but I would love for everyone interested to come out and see whats going on. If you wanna help show up ready to get in the water. This wont take but maybe an hour or so. If you missed the TVA Grass meeting a few months ago, the TVA biologist for Chickamauga as well as the man in charge of aquatic monitoring for this lake. They are great guys and have lobbied hard on behalf of the fishermen to make this happen. Also, I wish we could spread the word to local home owners, so we can show them that spraying is not the only means of grass control. TVA has told me that they are going to try some different things and evaluate the success before they begin spraying. I think a lot of the success will be measured by the participation of the local fisherman, so I hope you guys will try to show up and let TVA know this is important to us. If you have any questions let me know! In a few weeks we will have phase 2, which will involve manual cutting of the grass by hand in nuisance areas, that will involve a bit more work and I will need everyone's help! Mother Chickamauga thanks you for the help!
