Got a call last week from a gentleman that had been surfing the site and saw my phone number in a thread about needing a partner and Crappie fishing. After a short conversation we planned a trip out of Grasshopper for Friday.
We met at 8am with brisk winds and very chilly. I made sure Mr. Cleveland was still wanting to go with the elements as bad as they were, He assured me he did. We bundled up and headed out in his new 285 Stratos. We started off fishing small jigs around some structure in about 20ft on water. Mr. Cleveland caught one Bream, I had no hits. We moved and fished a little shallower and some more structure......nothing. We fished drops, creek channels yet located nothing that was hungry. We did locate bait fish in about 9ft to 15ft of water yet still nothing. We ran over to Sale Creek where Mr. Cleveland knew a little better. We fished every where from the boat docks to the creek channel and didn't catch any Crappie. We did manage to get an occasional Bream and a couple that was close to putting in the live well but we didn't. We concluded the day fishing a bluff area just North of Grasshopper. We landed a few more bream and the catch of the day, Two nice Smallmouth. We got back to the ramp and I got my 5 gallon bucket out and put the twelve Crappie from the livewell in it and headed home.emoScratch
I guess your wondering where the 12 Crappie came from! Mr. Cleveland had caught them Thursday evening and brought them to me. Needless to say I was very appreciative. I'll take Crappie anyway I can get them! Though it wasn't near as productive as what Mr. Cleveland had been having, we had some good fellowship and realized how small a world it really is. After talking, we realized we knew many of the same people and Mr. Cleveland worked and played Softball with my Dad. Looking forward to another trip.emoSmile

Sounds like a good trip even though you didn't load the boat. Sounds like you fished with a good fellow and made a new friend. Any body that will bring you crappie is alright in my bookemoHungry

JSV,,, please, don't refer to him as Mr. Cleveland....that makes me feel even older than I am....Just call him Troit...he will know who your talking to. Glad you all got out and fished together....I remember one time in the county park a catfish hurt him real bad. According to him he about bled to death....what I saw was a small scratch...LOL really good man.....FA

JSV you had me going on the 12 crappie! I thought, now wait a minute....where did those come from?!....Sounds like a really nice guy bringing you those fish. They'll sure make for some good eating with this cool weather.

JSV, when Fishinvol and I were fishing in Dayton last week, there was only 1 other boat out there and I'm pretty sure that it was Troit. We waved at each other, but weren't close enough to chat. He is an old Duponter too.emoGeezer

JSV, your right, Mr. Cleveland is a nice a guy as anyone would want to meet, and he will catch two to your one with that yellow line, and another feller that goes by the name Drumking uses that yeller stuff. Now there's another. He's a very good crappie fisherman I can assure you of that, but all good crappie fisherman get zapped every once in a while. It's good hear that you two got aquainted and had a good day on the water. that was a good post.

Indeed you all are right. Mr. Cleveland is fine fine man and a heck of a Fisherman.
However, I will beg to differ with you Mr. Fat Albert, I would say he must of been stuck pretty bad for him to even say anything about it! We fished Friday all day in that cold and wind and the Crappie Teacher never even put on a pair of Gloves. He don't fish in his PJ's either!emoCool
Yes.......Yellow line!! I think that was my first question and lesson of the day! I believe I will be getting me some.
Looking forward to some more lesson.

jsv,,,,yes, he was, yes, he is...and you should try fishing in PJ's.. very comfortable... yellow line does make a difference....and that's all I'm going to say about that.....LOL FA
