Had a great morning today, got out about 5:30 still fairly dark and decided to bass fish some. Started with a buzz bait and since the water is high I just turned the trolling motor on high and went for the low hanging fruit.(easy bite) I caught about 15 bass on a buzz. Chopper blade and firetiger color. One went about 3 lbs and crushed it. Caught all of them in 2 to 4 feet in the newly forming grass.emoTongue I than went for a top water spook bite but only managed one on that. So I went to the worm and fished points in WT around 10 to 20 feet with a pumkinseed Chartruse tail and caught about 20 doing that. I decided since the bite was on I would try my shallow pet fish and they were hitting today also. Managed about 15 more doing that on a trick worm 8 inch greenpumpkin with red flake in about 2 to 6 feet. Of those had four keepers averaging about 15 and a half inches each. Where were these fish on the CFF8emoScratch . At 11 I decided if I was going to crappie fish I had better do it before it got too hot. Was using yellow twister jigs two at a time and caught about 15 and had a nice mess for supper. I left due to boat traffic at 1. A great morning and cuaght a nice limit of bass that would have gone a little over 10 lbs had I been in a Tx.emoCool Jmax

Sounds like a great day. Looks like we left at the same time due to heat. I'm glad you were catching the keepers, all I could catch were babies today.

Davo I cuaght mostly babies myself from 12 to 14 and a half inches. Out of the 55 or so bass I boated only five were keepers but I had a blast catching them like that. I was also sure glad to see the grass coming up on our end of the lake. I know those bass relate to it and that is where every buzz bait bass came from. I wished we had it like they do up lake. I am going to have to make a trip up there sometimes and try that.emoSmile I saw your post, we must have been all around each other but I don't believe I ever saw your boat.emoCool Jmax

Sounds like you had a great day. I wish I would have went out now. Just didn't want to get on the water with all the idiot boaters this weekend. Good to hear someone is catching em.

Omega, I live over here by the WT and usually it does not get bad until noon. When I got there this morning a guy was leaving and another was launching but that was it. Only us three, the one guy must have night fished. I started to ask him how he did but he got in his truck before I could ask. I havn't caught that many fish like that since the fall last year on the chick. For whatever reason they were aggressive today.emoThumbsup Jmax

Great report Jmax. Good to hear that you are on them hot and heavy again. We'll have to get out there at dusk one day this week.

Glad to see the "Polo" back on with us. It has been quite around here without the map expert. Did you go last night? I was looking for your post. Sorry I couldn't go with ya but after fishing both Sat. and Sun. I figured I had better stay home with the wife or be in the dog house. We do need to get togather sometimes here soon and catch some of these bass that are heating up.emoCool Jmax

Nope, it took longer to get home than I expected and it was getting dark so I didn't go. I had taken a good portion of my fishing stuff to Michigan with me and it was still in pieces. It will take me a good 30-60 minutes to put it all back together.

Great report, congratulations on an excellent day.
Were the crappie caught deep, under docs, or what?

Great post Jmax, I just returned from D.C. last night. We had a blast. I hope my son retains have of what he saw. I'm glad that the fish are hitting, I thought the skiers would have the the lake to busy to fish. Good job.

Hey Gator thanks, I have been catching the crappie I am on in shallow water. In the bays or big coves if that is what you want to call them I look for the creek or ditch that runs though it when the water is down. Find the deepest spot in the creek and that is where I am finding those crappie. This trip they all came out of a ditch with 4.5 feet sides and about 6.5 feet bottom. Creek was only about 20 feet wide but they were there in it. I would cast out the jigs and count to six 1000s and start reeling very slowly. Then all you would feel is a slite tick and I would pick up on it fairly guickly but not too hard so not to tear it off and it was on.

Boi in the mornings it is still very nice on the water to fish. Seems like the nuts...I mean joy boaters...don't get out till around noon.emoBigsmile I did this last year as well and caught some nice ones also but this is the first good trip this year doing it. It gets even better in the fall.emoWorthy Jmax

Thanks very much for the info. I'm loving to crappie fish but have trouble find them after the spawn so I've stopped looking. You have given me new inspiration. One more question, did you graph them with your electronics or just start fishing the creek bed?
Gator

I saw them come up. About a month ago they came up several times chasing small fry and I saw them breaking. They have never left the area and must stay in that area all year. There seems to be ol' stumps on the bank of that little creek and they relate to them. I can see the stumps on my electronics.emoSmile Jmax
