Got out to the area to hunt early so I could get set up. I had put on extra clothing due to the snow and rain so I would be able to sit still even in the cold. I also brought along my portable roof and once up the tree with the climber I then set up the roof to keep the snow and rain off of me. I had a good set up and the weather was not a factor this morning at all.

It was one beautiful morning to be out. The snow where I was came down hard and made for a winter wonderland out in front of me. At 7:25 I saw my first deer but could not see it well and never saw it's head well enough to see if it had horns. Against the snow background the deer were easy to see. Saw my resident coyote at 8:30 and he was around me for a good ten minutes or so. He was very interested in one area of snow covered grass out in front of me but he never seemed to catch anything in it. It looked well fed and heavy in the snow. At 8:45 I spotted a large doe and two yearling walking through and the yearling were having a blast. I bet that was their first snow fall for them. The last deer I saw was at 9:35 and it got by me before I could get a good look at it. Five deer and a cayote was not a good kill day but it was great to be out in the snow and watch the morning come alive and the fresh snow on the ground. emoAngel

Will have to go back out on the next gun hunt season after the two week break and try to get my third one. Got to be thankful for the hunting and fishing God has blessed us with here in our area. emoSmile Jmax

I wish coyote furs would bring money now days! I have shot at least ten where I hunt and I've nailed four this year already. I hate those things. I once read that an average herd of them would have to kill one deer or three yearlings a week to survive. I didn't like the sound of that but back to the post I had a lovely morning in the woods myself. Got to see everything go white and enjoyed not seeing the first deer. Shot two coyotes at 10:40 and went home.

I knew it was gonna be slow when I saw a squirrel come down a tree, take one hop into the snow and turned around and went back up the tree, never to be seen again. Although nothing was moving, it was a good day to watch it snow.
Hook1- Those coyotes are getting bad in Chickamauga. I used to hunt off of Marble Top Road, but the coyotes (and development) have really made an impact on the deer population. I think its time to pull out the fawn bleat! emoEnforce
