Nice job NRG, very impressive. How do you price such a job? Is it pretty much as you go by the hour based on the condition of the boat or can you give a close ballpark price once you look at the boat? I'm wondering how cost effective is having something like this done to an old boat versus just spending the $$$ for something newer.

I just Price the job based condition of the boat, and how high of quality paint job wanted .. it can be a simple as wash , degrease, and dewax, sand, and paint, just taping up the hardware.
Or it can be a higher quality paint job, take off all hardware, fill deep scratches, and fix any cracks etc.. sanded, primed , then block sand, then prime again, sand and paint, then cleared, then color sand and buff.
Also can include custom paint items, like air brushed fames, hand brushed pin stripe, etc ..
Basic paint is about 900 - 1200 high end paint job 2000 - 6000 .. and yes you could buy a newer boat ... but paint is cheaper than a new boat.
Even a total restore transom, and stringers your looking at 3000 and then the paint say 1200 and then new seats 600 , new carpet 700, your looking at 5500 for basically a new boat go try to buy a new boat for that or even a used one that you know is 100% solid and you get it all exactly how you want it not how some body else said it should be.. and I do alot that are sentimental value .. was fathers boat etc.

Not to mention it would be one less boat filling up the land fill

Thanks for the explanation, it makes sense. Better to know the quality of what you're spending your hard earned $$$ for than to just hope there is not hidden problems. It sounds like you do a very good job. What kind of warranty, if any, do you give on your work. For example if someone had you do a complete job, transom rebuild, stringers, paint and seats ----- what would the warranty on the materials and workmanship be?

1 year on structural components transom stringers etc, unless manufacturer of material or part was longer, but labor would still only be one year.

Seats would only have warranty by the manufacture , paint has 90 day warranty against peeling

I'm going too when ever he gets around to it. NRG's been pretty busy latlely and I'm glad he has. Great guy I hope he stays too busy to paint it.
