It is the first of Sept. and time to start thinking about Mr. Mega Buck. emoDance Ok, maybe just a legal buck might work. But, none the less it is that time of year. Bow season begins in most states the last weekend of this month. A little of a cool snap has me thinking about hunting more then fishing. emoEek I have enlisted the help of Mr. Buck Master Churly and he has agreed to help me this year with a food plot. emoWorthy (I have to take him Crappie fishing on trade. emoBigsmile )He told me the first part of Sept. I had to go and clear my food plot location, cut out the big stuff, remove the big stuff and spray round up to burn off what was left. I just about decided I was too old to do this kind of thing by hand. emoGeezer However with a little blood sweat and tears I got her done. Went up on the mountain out in the middle of no where and cleared me 50 yards one way and about 100 yards the other. The width is from 10 to 15 yards wide. Got me a 16 foot lean stand dead middle to be able to look both ways. Sprayed it well before leaving and will wait about a week before going back to bust up the ground and spread the seed. Here is the before and after shots of the 100 yard side and the 50 yard side at ground level looking back at the stand. emoThumbsup Hope it pays off. emoToast Jmax

Its a combination seed that Churly is getting for me. I understand it has several types of deer foliage foods in it. Radishes, clover and wheat I believe is some of what he said was in it. emoScratch Jmax

I am a rookie at this stuff. Thought I would keep you all posted on the progress. Been talking with Churly and he told me we will be planting the plot this Thursday evening in front of this coming weekend's rains. emoThumbsup The seed gets eaten by the birds if you plant it when it is dry and you do not have a rain for a while. I sprayed it heavily with Round Up at the plot on the 3rd so it should be burned up by now pretty good. Churly has a disk type device he pulls behind his four wheeler to break up the ground before seeding. Apparently this seed is high yield and if it just touches dirt it will take. This is a teaching lesson for me as well as hopefully it will lead to a couple nice bucks this year. In Arkansas you can hunt over feeders so this kind of thing is all new to me. Will keep you posted. emoToast Jmax
