We got to the Big G. at 8:30am. Fished around & had one on in the first 5 min. on a trap. 14 inch about 2lbs in around 6 ft. of water. Fished on & about 10 min. later BAM. 4.6lbs on the dig. scales. Same thing 6ft. deep, on a trap. 2 casts later & BAM!!! This one after about 10 cranks of the handle decided he didn't want to come any futher & pulled off

...As it turns out I would have another do the same later in the day. I had my drag loose enough, what do you do? We ended up with 9 fish. 3 at or around 4lbs. (4.6-4.2-& 3.9) With a 16inch & a17& 1/2inch. fish to make up our 16.5lb. sack. All but one were caught on traps. The 4.2lber was caught on a jerkbait. In or around 6ft. of water. PS the first time I've ever been to Guntersville & the wind didn't get above 8mph.

Are you using the stock hooks, 2jigs? If you switch them out for Excalibur or Mustad Triple-Grip, you have far less bass come unbuttoned. However, you are always gonna lose some fish with the trap...it's a numbers game. Great report!

Yea Bprice, it was a party allright. The only trouble was the bass seemed like the women back in my party days. They were all leaving with other guys.

What ever happend to the old "Pro Trap"?
The one with the line that ran through the bait, i dont rember losing near as many with it.

I have found that the best thing for keeping fish hooked on traps is the rod. Go to a medium weight with a very soft tip. You want feel the traps vibration near as well, nor the bite, but they will hook themselves most of the time and stay hooked up alot better. Lossing fish on these bates, in my view, is because the stiffer rods dont allow the bate be be taken as deep. Your rod rebounds to fast on the strike causing hooks to stick the last piece of the lip. If you havent tried this, give it a shot. I know catch ratio is much better for me when doing this.

I forgot to say this works even better with sharp hooks. The softer the tip needs to be followed with sharper hooks:)

Heading down there Sat. for the first time, can't wait. Thanks for the tips, I was wondering what to throw. Sounds like the trap bite is on.

Way to go there 2jigs!emoWorthy Thanks for sharing your fishing day with us. I may try to slip up there myself. Do you know what the water temp was yesterday?emoCool Jmax

There ya go 2jigs! Now you know theres fish there huh!?

I'll have to agree with the rod comment. I was using one that has a soft tip. Actually was using my crank rod. Med action 7'6. Talk about feeling everything. The rod and that braid...wow. I too had to readjust my drag. Not anywhere near what I have it set with mono.

Glad you got on some fish and had a good time.

I will tell you what is getting me excited about this one is the amount of CFF members that are catching some quality bass. Flip and Bbass, 2Jigs and his partner, Madd Dog's partner was up there not too long ago and did well, and Pointer. This should be a great Tx. May have our best results yet. I am looking forward to seeing some heavy bags and PLEASE! someone bring a camera and take lots of pictures to post.emoThumbsup Jmax
