Me and a buddy went out this morning, put in at Stevenson Bridge. Shot the breeze with a fella and it turned out that he was headed to the same place we was. We went upriver to Widows Creek and fished the old dam. It was 8:30cst and it was cold...water temps in the 40's and a stiff wind with a little swell.

Fished the dam several times with no luck, hooked a minnow and let it drift down the length of the dam. Forgot about the rod until I looked down and it was tugging. Picked it up and had a short LM on the other end. This fish was definatly COLD...I haven't seen that white of a belly in a long time.

Fished for another 20-30 mins and never got another nibble. Went across river to the plant. Fished the discharge and found water nearly 70 degrees emoEek

Saw several large gar waiting for something to ride past. Buddy caught 4 skipjack that were 12-13 in long. He had one longer than that, but it got off. I found out today that fishing that kind of current isn't my style...Im used to pickin' grass off my baits. emoBang

My Buddy ended up catching the last fish of the day, this bass was chunk to be so little. Almost measuring, but it had a FAT belly(wonder why?) I learned alot about fishing that kind of a current today, althought it doesn't compare to any of the dams, there pushing some water out of that place...

Pics to come...

Great report tater! Sounds like my kind of fishing. It's great that the skipjack are in there...Maybe the big boys will follow at some point during the Winter. How deep is it at the plant discharge?

Sounds like that is going to be a hotspot for stripers in the winter (Dec. Jan. Feb) skipjack being there is a good sign..I would suspect that their are going to be lots of Threadfins there too, remeber they are a native tropical fish and have 100% mortalitiy rate when the water reaches like 45F or something close to that...They will find whatever warm water they can...The threadfin below Nickajack dam have to so somewhere and that could be the spot! Were any seagulls working the area?

Water was extremely clear yesterday as well. I fished South Sauty Creek and Town Creek. Limited success to say the least. Crappie fished for a while, and my buddy only managed one small black crappie. I did land a 4 lb LM freelining a bass shiner around chunk rock. Fish was fat and healthy.

Town Creek had no current and no water was flowing... the rain today will help that for sure. Only caught a small yellow stripe in TC.

Good luck to everyone!

I just finished reading some tournament results in Bassmaster. Andy Morgan, a local whom several on the board know or know of, won a Bassmaster event in September on Guntersville in Sauty Creek.

Andy and his father used to clean up in the CBA events when he was I believe in his late teens and early twenties. I have seen him but have never met him. Andy if you are reading these posts it would be great to hear some posts from you. No specifics, just patterns that we can learn from.
