I headed out to do a lil fishin this morning. I started out fishing the grass mats with a toad. Not the first taker. Ran out the the river and fished the river bluffs (3ft to 18-20ft) no takers. Tied on a crankbait and the action began. Boated 15 fish off the bluff with 2 keepers and 13 slicks...not too bad considering the sun was high and bright. There are some big fish on that bluff, just couldn't coax them into biting...
Decided to hit a hole that I havent fished in years...no takers except for a big cat that followed my lure all the way to the boat. That place is as fishy as can be, but with the high sun, the water wasnt deep enough...
So I hit another slough that doesn't look like much when you pass it (which is a good thing) but it opens up big time. With a creek channel that meanders all the way to the back. The water had a lot of stain in it and when you get out of the channel, it drops from 5-7ft to 2-3ft. Shad bustin' everywhere so I start chunkin' the crankbait again. This place had stumps and a grass mat, but the mat is in really shallow water less than a foot. I was working the edges of the mat when I felt a bump...

Good fish, couldnt have been in 2 ft of water when it hit...which really surprised me because of the way the sun was. Unless the stained water helped.
I kept fishing the area until I noticed the slick, smooth water having some current in it. Turned the boat around and hit a row of stumps with the square-billed crank...boated 1 keeper and 1 slick and lost a real good fish right at the boat. When I lost that fish, I decided it was time to go home...
Rode around awhile doing some scouting and cooling off. The upcoming CFF tourney outta be intersesting...can't wait to see the big bags weighed in.
