After last Saturday and the amazing sacks you guys brought in, I was eager to get back out there. I had overheard a guy at work talking about Guntersville and how he would like to fish it sometime...I got a backseat after bragging on you guys from last weekend! We put in at Mud Creek around 6:15 or so, beating most of the tourney crowd to the flats in the back of Mud. Within a few casts, I had 4lbr in the boat and just knew we were going to slay them. Two hours later and not so much as a nibble, I was beginning to wonder if I had bit off more than I could chew. We noticed a flood of boats leaving the creek and not many coming in, so we decided to bail on Mud and find some different water. We moved upriver to Raccoon Creek per FishinTenn's recommendation and I immediately recognized it as the place Swamp Donkey and I had fished. Just like last weekend, the flats on the right along the channel did not produce with traps but the rocky transitions with laydowns gave up several quality fish on a jig. Although I was catching good fish, I was beginning to feel little joy in it as the guy who had brought me was working on getting skunked
. When we got to the point where the creek channel takes a hard left, he finally hooked a chunky 3lbr with a jerkbait on the other side of the boat. I threw the trap to the same area a couple of times and hooked its twin. At that point we moved away from the bank and the channel and just started fancasting the flat. From a distance, the immense flat looks pretty bland with the exception of a few scattered stick-ups. However, we soon found that it is covered with submerged stumps and laydowns. We spent the rest of the day on the flat, catching an endless amount of short fish along with several in the 3 to 4lb range. As the water got shallower, we switched from the hardbaits to swimming worms and lizards. Although we never hooked a true Guntersville hawg, I enjoyed a day that was better than any I've had on the Chick in a long time. When you lose count of keeper fish, you know you are on an awesome bass fishery. </p>
