After last Saturday and the amazing sacks you guys brought in, I was eager to get back out there. I had overheard a guy at work talking about Guntersville and how he would like to fish it sometime...I got a backseat after bragging on you guys from last weekend! We put in at Mud Creek around 6:15 or so, beating most of the tourney crowd to the flats in the back of Mud. Within a few casts, I had 4lbr in the boat and just knew we were going to slay them. Two hours later and not so much as a nibble, I was beginning to wonder if I had bit off more than I could chew. We noticed a flood of boats leaving the creek and not many coming in, so we decided to bail on Mud and find some different water. We moved upriver to Raccoon Creek per FishinTenn's recommendation and I immediately recognized it as the place Swamp Donkey and I had fished. Just like last weekend, the flats on the right along the channel did not produce with traps but the rocky transitions with laydowns gave up several quality fish on a jig. Although I was catching good fish, I was beginning to feel little joy in it as the guy who had brought me was working on getting skunked

. When we got to the point where the creek channel takes a hard left, he finally hooked a chunky 3lbr with a jerkbait on the other side of the boat. I threw the trap to the same area a couple of times and hooked its twin. At that point we moved away from the bank and the channel and just started fancasting the flat. From a distance, the immense flat looks pretty bland with the exception of a few scattered stick-ups. However, we soon found that it is covered with submerged stumps and laydowns. We spent the rest of the day on the flat, catching an endless amount of short fish along with several in the 3 to 4lb range. As the water got shallower, we switched from the hardbaits to swimming worms and lizards. Although we never hooked a true Guntersville hawg, I enjoyed a day that was better than any I've had on the Chick in a long time. When you lose count of keeper fish, you know you are on an awesome bass fishery.

Way to go Jason, emoThumbsup Sounds like a good day to me on the water. I would also guess that based on the weigh in at Shellmound you two might have been in the money if you had done that with them. Depends on how many were 3's and 4's. Second there was only like 16.5 lbs. I bet some of them would have loved to have your wieght.emoTongue Jmax

Jmax, our top five would have been in the neighborhood of 18lbs...well below what I figured the big dogs would be dragging in. We had two just a few ounces over 4lbs and several 3lb+ fish.

I think I saw some CFFers out there; Mad Dog if he was in a silver boat with a silver (Honda?) outboard and Beetelespin if he was in a shiny red Legend.

Jmax, it took us from daylight to dark to get that weight. At the time of weigh-in, we probably only had 14lbs or so.

:( Oh! I got ya now. I was thinking if you had that much it would have been second however based on that, you would have got a pat on the back.emoAngel Jmax

Yeah, a pat on the back would have been tough to swallow after throwing down the cash for the entry fees and gas needed to lock through.
