Where was everybody? We arrived at Jackson County Park just before 7am, expecting to see hordes of boats waiting in line to launch. However, we ended up being the third to launch with no others waiting. With it being a mere few degrees above freezing, we opted to skip any runs until the sun came out and fish the coves in Dry Creek instead. We started in the last one on the left before the bridge and hauled water for half an hour before realizing that they were not on the flats. I made a cast off the other side of the boat to straighten out my line after a nasty backlash (is it always windy on the G?) and hooked a 4lbr on a Royal Shad XR50. A few more casts in the general area resulted in another 4lbr on my friend's shallow #5 Rapala minnow, as well as my best for the day at just ounces under 7lbs on the XR50. At that point we put the boat in 2-3ft and focused on the 4-6ft ditch leading into the cove. Although we caught fish all through it, the bends or turns in the ditch yielded the better bass. Excited about discovering a possible pattern, we pulled out with the intent of duplicating it only to find that most of the other boats were fishing in the same manner. In fact, every cove in sight had multiple boats chunking traps down the middle. After idling around, we found a cove with nobody in it by the little islands. On the first cast, what I thought was a hawg nailed my trap. It was a nearly 2lb crappie! We caught several more monster slabs, as well as some chunk bass, but did not come up with the quality of fish we had in the first cove. At midday, the sun came out and the wind slowed up a bit...as well as the trap bite. We moved to the docks and laydowns where Roseberry enters the main channel and I was able to flip up a few in the 2-3lb range on a 1/2oz black-n-blue Booyah jig. When we reached the river, we ran out of cover and decided to call it a day. Aside from the cold and the wind, it was another great day to be on Guntersville.</p>

For all those who offered tips on fishing around the park, thank you. That's the kind of stuff that makes the CFF what it is
