Didn't get on the water until around noon CDT. Started slow with only small fish, tried a few different areas and patterns, finally wound up flipping the grass on the main river channel. Partner caught the biggest four on a 10" watermelon worm. Finished our day out fishing around shallow grass in the back of a creek using poppers and prop-baits. No big fish, but we were there for the topwater bite and weren't disappointed. Largest five came in a few ounces shy of 17lbs.

Center Hill 6/18
Waded the tilwaters from 9 until 3 CDT. Place was covered up with anglers, most flyfishing. We caught a good number of trout on cickhoppers, rebel floating minnows in black/gold, and rooster tails in black/gold. The majority of what we caught were browns. Brought enough 12" rainbow home for a couple meals.

I might have to hook up with you one day! Your fishing two of my favorite waters! I love Guntersville bass and my family is from Silver Point, TN. I caught my first fish in the Caney Fork. You should try floating the river in a flat bottom durring generation for some magnum brown trout! Great report!

What about the current down there below Comer Hangnmoss??? Are they generating enough for the edges of the grass to move or at least lean down river?? Not as much current as usual up here on Nickajack!

NO current on Guntersville the whole time we were there. Not even a hint of current, so the fish were buried in the grass instead of actively feeding along the edges.

I like the Caney, too, Churly. My brother and I always spend Memorial weekend on the Caney to get away from the big lake crowds. No report this year because there wasn't much to talk about. Last year we went down-river and took the boat way up the Collins and wore out the smallmouth. This year we went up-river and just caught a few smaller bass and walleye.

emoScratch The Collins River comes together with the Caney Fork above Rock Island. If you were below Center Hill Dam and fished up that creek that comes in on the left heading down river, you were up the Smith Fork which is an awsome smallmouth river! If you have been trout fishing up there on Memorial Weekends, we have definitely passed. I have a 7.5lb brown on the wall caught that weekend in '04.

Yep, we were around Rock Island last year. We put in the Caney at the first bridge past Camp Clements, went downstream past Rock Island and up the Collins. We started out just riding and exploring, but when we got to the Collins and saw the skinny water with current and rocks jutting out everywhere, we just had to try it. Caught a few trout and tons of smallies & redeye (rock bass). The funniest part of the day was when we passed a canoe about a mile up the Collins. They said we wouldn't be able to get much further because of how shallow it was, but we went another three miles up the Collins. Nice to have a shallow drafting aluminum at times - until ya go to fish a tournament on big water. Then they're a bit slow :(

Congrats on the big brown.

You ever fished the Sequatchie River Churly? Awesome smallmouth river and I have personally witnessed a 23" rainbow come out of it just south of Pikeville. Most of my recent fishing trips have been in the Sequatchie. I enjoy the peacefullness of wade fishing. The lakes are too crowded lately and they just get worse every year. I can't wait for fall ;)

i have trout fished the little sequachie in Coppinger cove for trout but I never landed any big ones. i have heard that there a few good trout in there. Hey, I have heard that there is some awsome musky fishing in the collins river, but have not had a chance to try it. That area offers alot of neat fishing opportunities for those willing to explore. I have only fished below that Great falls dam for Walleye, and I have been all over the Hill but never above that dam. I know what you mean about getting away from the crowds.

Calf Killer, Caney, Collins all have good musky. Dale Hollow has some truly excellent musky fishing.

Coppinger's Cove is also very well known for the smallmouth. Used to be easy to get to the deep pools further upstream in the Little Sequatchie, but not any more. Folks have been stealing stone from the river bed and selling it as mountain stone. They've ruined so much that I liked about that area of the river. The river bed has even been shifted somewhat - all for the greed of some.

You ever wanna make a run to some of those out of the way waters, give me a yell.

I will definitely do that! I will be getting married next weekend and out of town thereafter. As soon as the smoke settles, I'll give you a shout!
