Well, I'd like to say that we spent the day reeling in hawgs...but I'd be lying

. We decided to try yet another 'new to us' area of Guntersville and put in at Goosepond. After launching, we went under the little bridge into the cove with the marina. There is a small patch of weeds immediately on the left that I've never seen before on the Chick. The leaves were green and about the size of a half dollar and formed a blanket on the surface. I flipped a tube into a little opening along the rip-rap and boated our first, which was just a little over 3. We continued along the left bank and didn't get bit again until we came to a stretch of clay bank. The traps were not getting any takers so I picked up a lizard and the clay bank gave up a buck bass. My partner and his son tied on lizards and we boated several more in the 1 to 2lb range. On our way back out, we found another patch of the weeds I mentioned and I flipped up another 3lbr.

After looking over the map, we decided to fish the huge bay that lies between the two bridges. The traps were still not producing so we had to settle for buck bass on lizards and stick baits for the next couple of hours. We began keeping an eye on where the other boats were and noticed that very few were beating the bank like us. After a little trolling, we found a couple of small humps about a hundred yards offshore in 8' that topped out at 2' to 3' beneath the surface. We spent the rest of the afternoon slinging traps and soft plastics around the humps and ended up with several more, the best being an ounce or so over 4lbs...that was with a 1/2oz trap still in its mouth that I casually waited to remove until after weighing

We never boated anything that was worth thumping your chest over, however, my friend's son robbed me of a 6 to 7lbr at the boat by whacking it in the head with the net

. When we got back to the ramp, the guy at the tackle shop said that the tourney guys had a tough day too, with 20lbs winning and the rest of the field coming in with 16s and 15s.

Water temps ranged from 72 to 74; lures were XR 50s in royal red and royal shad, Yum lizards and dingers in green pumpkin, Yum tube in green pumpkin with gold flake.

Is that the area beyond the bridges that gets extremely shallow? Used to be some good spawning area back there but it gets a lot of pressure. Sounds like you had a decent day fishing. I always feel robbed when I leave Guntersville without a 7+ pounder.....which is the majority of the time!emoBigsmile
