Tater and I decided to scope out the new launch for CFF 8, Jackson County Park, which has a nice ramp and a large dock, parking will be ok too... anyways.

I had never fished the Roseberry Creek area of Guntersville and we began working submerged grass with swimming 10 inch worms. Right off the bat we both had two fish in the boat in about 5 casts, Tater's was a decent keeper, and mine was about 14 inches...being rusty on fishing the grass, i missed about 3 fish on the swimming worm. For some reason we abandoned this pattern and ran down river towards Mink Creek to fish some boat houses and more grasslines. A large thunderhead was rumbling on Grant Mountain, spewing lightening, so we quickly decided to turn around. We fished a large flat just east of the "run" into North Sauty/Goosepond, no fish... swam worms, topwater, etc...

Decided to head on back into Roseberry, and got back on the fish immediately in the same situation, submerged grass with 10" swimming worms.. I boated a solid keeper, and also I believe a small slick. Once again, being rusty, we missed more fish... i hope that bug is cured by the 15th.

Unfortunately we couldn't coax a topwater bite that had been apparently on fire on Guntersville. It was a pretty slow day, with some nice spurts, but not a terrible start to my prefishing on Guntersville.

Dang Bprice, did you have an all night hang over like flip???? The look on your face is not one of joy and delight.emoPoke Looks like you hate to be there. I know with the Penny loafers and the Ramp Beuties tater can be a little rough to fish with but how bout a smile?emoBigsmile Jmax

emoUpsmile I belive Penny Loafer musta seen that gal again as he was at least smilin!emoLaugh Or maybe Bprice saw her and couldn't ferget! JK guys. Nice lookin fish. Brandon I have fished in there at Roseberry creek before and it's a nice place. The fella I was fishing with had a couple over 6 outa there.

No late night binges, thats just the look of a man that the 99 degree sunlight had been beating onto for 5 hours by that time. emoLaugh Plus Tater caught me by surprise.

Tater and I haven't seemed to slay them when we fish together, but we always do have a good time thats for sure. Something bad always happens though...

make sure you are using a stick with some backbone and try to keep your line as tight as possible. you'll get used to the bite soon and it will pay off down there!

The first couple good ones I had on in the STNA I lost also. Than I had a 4+ come up and throw it. emoBang I figured real quick I was not to let them take it. I came to this understanding, right or wrong it worked. That is at the G on a swimming worm when it hits, set the hook, if you feel a tap, set the hook, if your line goes limp, set the hook, if it moves off to the side, set the hook, if it feels mushie, set the hook! If for any reason at all the line does not feel right, SET THE HOOK!!!! If you let it at all take it, the fish would go round some moss, in the moss, under the moss, whatever and than when you did set the hook you would not get a good hook set becuase of the stuff in the way and it would bury up. Once I started doing this I did much better at getting them on and in. I have alwasy been one to feel the hit, drop my rod, let them have it a second and than set the hook. That does not work well there in that moss. I had to adjust to the bite and the pattern to make it work. My two cents worth for what it is worth.emoCool Jmax

Churly and Jmax,

Thanks for the tips fellas, its greatly appreciated. Yes I had the "old texas rig" mentality last night to my hook sets, and I am pretty sure I missed over 5 fish because of it, and several felt like solid bites. You live you learn, and they are still there piled up pretty good.

Thanks again.

Jmax is right on! I guess that pattern is somewhat similar to a reraction strike. The bass just knows that there is something moving past and he wants to slow it down to see if its food. Where as normally you have to give the fish time to get to the hook before setting. Thats a great way to catch those biguns down there before the grass tops out hard!

Bprice is right, we have fished twice and both times rocked, but something has always went wrong. I guess I am back luck or something...

The fish I caught knocked the worm about 4 ft up the line...either that or that monster hook set emoLaugh Seen part of my worm come flying up out of the water. One thing is for sure, the fish was in the boat.

We wanted to leave that spot and not wear it out so we made a big change and mother nature did too. We were commenting on how the shade from the big cloud felt good. We made the run in question and then it happened, Lighting, wind. I think we were in the down draft of the T'storm because I havent ever seen waves like these before.

It was fun as usual to hook up with another forum member to do a little fishing with.

A guy once told me his dad taught him how to fish stuff like the grass. He called it the three tap method. The first tap, was the fish takeing the lure, the second tap was the fish spitting the lure out and the third tap was his dad coming up the side of his head because he did not set the hook. It must work because he sets the hook on everthing and is a pretty good fisherman.emoToast RELEASE THEM ALIVE
