Hey Fellas,

First I want to thank Jmax and Tarheel for the phone calls during the day updating me on what they were doing and offering me to come that way. I talked with my partner about it (who was the boater) and we agreed to stay on our pattern since we hadn't found the fish. Well, he agreed on that more than I did emoLaugh But for real, thanks guys for the selflessness and the phone calls... ya'll are awesome.

As for my report:

My team ended up with 4 Keepers that weighed in at 10.4 lbs, that was good enough for 14th out of 29. Not what I wanted, but hey i'll take it for the first tourney I reckon.

We fished many areas that produced no fish:
Grass Lines around islands south of Goose Pond
Grass lines near the amplitheatre at Goose Pond
Stump flats near goose pond
Grass at Mink Creek
Grass and humps in Bosart Creek

We then worked off shore humps with rat-l-traps. No fish off of dark traps, but once the sun poked out a little bit we caught 4 (1/3) bass off of chrome and smokey joe color

Another bite came off of a man made cinder block bed near Mink Creek: we caught 6 bass (2/4) all on finesse worms, only when the wind was blowing.

Finally we worked the mouth of South Sauty and the grass line on the east side of South Sauty near the islands. We caught a total of 5 (1/4) fish there all on pumpkin seed Rat-L-traps and Cordell Royal Shad Spots.

It seems that the fish are moving up, and as Tarheel and Jmax can atest Guntersville is at FULL POOL. Now I know why Wheeler is so dagum low, they are choking it out to fill up Guntersville, which I can't help but get pissed at, but thats my own vendetta vs. TVA.

It took a team weight of 36 lbs 10 oz to win our tournament, and I got no information from them on where they caught fish... several teams weighed no fish.

I have no results from the BAIT tourney.

If any of the STNA guys want to call and talk, or anyone for that fact wants to call and talk about what i saw on G'ville gimme a call, 256-479-7662.

Time for church,
Brandon emoSmile

BPrice, great info. Did it seem that the fish were relating to the channel or were they just relating to the cover, like grass, wood, cinder blocks? 10 4oz isn't that bad. I wish that I had been able to be out but work has been keeping me off the waves. Again, great info. Thanks.

Mark,

They weren't really relating to the channel... they seem to be staging and holding on the edge of the grass..

The hump we caught them on was about 3-5 ft surrounded by 20 ft on the north side and 14 ft on the south. Grass was still alive from last years crop. All of my fish came after i would rip my trap out of the grass.

As for the the cinder block areas, they were holding very tight to cover and the bite was very light. That area they were in seemed like a nice spawning area.. the bank that was exposed was sandy.

We fished several spawning flats and saw some shad being chased, but no takers... we covered the area with texas rig finesse worms, traps, and i even threw a buzz after talking to The JMax and Tarheel Fish Catching Team :) But no takers, and nobody else in that area where catching fish. The water was 58. I am thinking when it hits 62 they'll move up.. its a great looking area (Bozart Creek..hint hint) emoThumbsup

The lake is full, and I think everyone was in agreement it wasn't last weekend for CFF 3... I think maybe the rise of 1-2 ft, might still have these fish that are in transition reeling... and the bite was tough unless you find an area like Jmax and Theel found where they live all year... pre-spawn-post-summer-fall-winter areas.

I am expecting the bite to be no better this week and weekend for the "transition fish." With the way the weather will be.

Hope this helps,
Brandon

Great report and in depth. Thanks Brandon. Glad you got to go and try it out. Wish you would have won tho. Sounds like a lot of fish are moving in and out all the time so whats not there today may be full tommorow.

No problem guys... I want to help out as many folks as I can.. these lakes are big enough for all of us...

I learned a TON Saturday, and it was a pleasure being out there and learning from my partner, his name is Ken Burke and is from Gurley... great guy if you ever run into him (you never know). We are getting together and marking my G'ville map for the grass lines...
