North Alabama Tournament Anglers had our first Guntersville tournament on Saturday... We launched out of Waterfront, and my partner and I immediately took the long COLD run to Mud Creek. We got way back deep, and it initially paid off. Within 15 minutes of arrival I had boated one around 4.5 and my partner boated one right at 5.5. Fish were caught on a red 1/4 spot and 1/4 Bayou Boogie, in very shallow water. We milled around Mud for another two hours, boating 2 more keepers, and both myself and my partner losing BIG bass near the boat. They just were not hitting out traps very well at all. All of my fish had only one hook in. The wind was heavy early, but died down, so we decided to run out so we didn't get beaten to death later. We made some passes through Jones Cove and Criders Slough, picking up a couple fish here and there. Basically same baits, in the same shallow depths. Once again had several hit, hook up, and come off very quickly, it just wasnt' a hard bite today. Then we headed down river and covered some spawning flats near Seibold that were a little deeper, two keepers were caught on 3/4 Red Traps. We saved our best hump for late in the tournament, hopefully to allow the fish to come back up on the humps after their retreat over this cold front. The wind absolutely had our way with us, and we didn't pick up any fish on the hump.

We found water temps ranging from 52 - 59 degrees all in different areas of the lake.

Our boat finished with 7 fish for 23 lbs, which was good enough for 4th or so out of 27. No money, first place had 8 fish for around 33 lbs.

Tough day on the G with the cold front and high winds... I heard though it took 28 lbs to win the BAIT tournament out of Waterfront... quite a sack!

As the weather stabilizes this week, the bite should be back on really heavy. The fish are still shallow, because we saw a ton of them... just a little lockjaw. Hindsight is 20/20, but I wish we would of stayed in Mud all day, since the winds laid down til around 2. Oh well... better thinking next time.
