Any North Alabama fisherman around this forum? I know stripers are out of season, but wondering if others with knowledge are lurking. The striper fishing has been off for years. I thought it was drought until this year. I heard a rumor that AL DNR stopped stocking stripers because of complaints from the black bass fisherman. I think most of this was from the guys that fish Smith Lake, but not sure. I am also not sure of the scope and nature of the folks at this forum. Does this typically include folks from all along the Tennessee River? I found this site through the classfieds while searching for some stuff to buy. I hope to be able to make contributions along the way, but still trying to get oriented.

Welcome prudog! I live in Huntsville, and there are several members from our area. Where are you located? You are right, ALDNR has not stocked stripers at Guntersville Dam since the mid 90s. There are several people including Mr. Cooley from Cooley's Bait and Tackle is asking that Stocking at Guntersville Dam again. I think a big part of it, is that most folks at G'ville Dam harvest the fish. I think they run way up the Paint Rock in the summer, as there is cool water near the foothills of the mountains in the PR Valley. You are more than welcomed to post North Alabama reports, and there are many of us that do.... Minner, Josh.Schreiber, Slo-Ride, J.bridges, SouthernCats, and CanoeMac.... join us and enjoy the fun!

Here is a recent report: http://www.chattanoogafishingforum.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=20437&posts=11&mid=156561&highlight=striper+dam&highlightmode=1&action=search#M156561

Excellent. Glad to see some locals after the local fishing forum shut down. Tony (Cooley) was actually the one that told me also about the potential striper population decline. I look forward to sharing some tall tales. I live in Huntsville and grew up in Arab (class of '85). I lived in Madison for a few years so fished Wilson and Wheeler dams also. However, no place like home (Guntersville dam). I am supposed to go bass fishing with a buddy in the next day or so in Decatur. He claims to have a honey hole. We will see about that. Always good to get out on the water! - John Pruett

John I haven't seen no good strips down there in along time...I use to fish for them alot but now I'm strictly a trophy cat hunter...btw I'm class of 95 and do you have a younger brother... emoUSA emoUSA

Yes, that would be Allan. He is between you and me, probabaly around '92 since we are seven years different. He is a fair-weathered fisherman. :) We have not fished together in years, but he does now have 2 yo twins. I can relate because I have 5 yo twins.

Dang... talking about something in the water!!!!!!!!!! We should start a fertility practice on Brindless Mountain! ;) Good to see some locals on this forum. Maybe it was the same stuff that boosted Guntersville bass fishing through the 90's.
