Who fishes Guntersville? What's your biggest fish? What's the time of year you catch your big fish?
I am getting the camper ready to set up at South Sauty from March til October and need some advise on places to fish and baits to use. I've heard this time of year Rattle Traps and Jigs?
Any suggestions?
If you fish Guntersville, stop by South Sauty and lets go fishin :)

Tndoe270, I have never fished down that far, but you have me curious about camping there and I might want to take my kids down that way on a weekend trip if we could camp near the water. Do you set up the camper just for weekend visits or are you planning on staying there from Mar-Oct? Are you taking a boat? Can you tent camp there? If you are going to be down there from March til October then I expect you'll be the one telling us how to catch em!

Jerkbaits,(Pointer 78's and Pointer 100's), Rattle Traps on flats and blades on outside edges of grass. The fish are very area specific. G is unlike any other lake in that respect.. My biggest on G was 7 lbs 11ozs. Also, I've caught just as many fish on chrome traps as I have red traps in February through April.

DHaun-
Southsauty campground has what they call seasonal campers which is what I am doing this year for the first time. I have a good friend that has camped down there now as a seasonal camper for his 4th year. I'm not sure about tents beside a camper that's already set up but they do have 4 rooms (what they call a motel) with 2 double beds, tv, and bath in each of the rooms for 29 or 39$ a night. The kids would love it because there is a pool in the campground also, places for them to ride bikes, etc. I will take my boat everytime I go and there is a ramp/dock also. There is a little store, gas, and cafe' there also. If you go on the web pull up southsautyresort.com for more info. Awesome place to bass fish. We didn't catch big numbers last year but our best day was 6-11, 5-7, 4-11, 4-7 all 4 within about 20 minutes and then we decided to go eat breakfast like a bunch of goofballs instead of staying in that area and continuing to fish. We hooked some really nice fish and actually saw them jump and politely spit the hook back to us and broke off several times on who knows how big those were. Bassmasters is having their tourney down there this year April 21,22,and 23 I believe so I plan on being down there on at least 2 of those days watching those guys :). Let me know if you'd like to go sometime and we'll work it out to go or you can follow me down there.

Actually, big fish can be anytime of the year here...I usually catch my biggest towards the end of March. Then in late May/early June before the grass starts to mat up about 6 in. from the surface.

The B.A.S.S Elite Series will be here April 20-23rd.

Ahhh, South Sauty...now ya'll are talking about my neck of the woods. emoLaugh

The STNA is fishing Guntersville twice this year, March 25th and June 17...

dhaun, I also know that right across from my camper that my sister has this year (tndoe270) while i am in Iraq, kinda rude for her to be there catching all the fish while i am here (just kiddin sis) there is a new camp ground and i believe they are going to have tent specific sites........ Sis has the number to where we stay and i will be there in april but get hte number from her and the store would knnow for sure. Do your country a service....fish with a veteran......haha see you guys in april.....

I was fishing down the inside of a weed bed on the main channel near waterfront tackle last spring. there were two guys fishing the other side and I asked them how they were doing. They said they were fishing a tourny, had three keepers and had one snap there line using a ten inch worm.I wasn' t in a tourny so I tould them I would fish somewhere else. The water was about 5 ft deep and you could see to the top of the weeds, as I was leaveing using my trolling motor I saw this huge fish swimming toward me with about a ten inch worm hanging from its upper lip. It was about a ten pounder. It must have been the fish they had lost earlyer. Would have made there day for sure!

Biggest on the G is around 5 lbs out of South Sauty Creek... there is a spring waaaay in the back, thats where I caught it.

Biggest lake bass was 5 lb 10 oz from Watts Bar/Clinch River, on a bluff just above Ladds Landing in Kingston. I was 13, and I decided to let the fish go... it was the hardest decision of my life (at the time), but that decision was one of my proudest moments. I'm glad I did because 15 minutes later my little brother (who was 9 at the time) caught one over 7 lbs!!! He did what his big brother did and threw it back...grandpa was happy because he didn't have to pay for two mounts! :) The pictures are better anyways... eat a few small ones, put the big ones back...

Now I've caught ponders over 7 and 8, but I don't count those... :)
