Finally got out for a day of Crappie chasin' today. Picked a cold day to do it too, It was 19* when I put in at Chester Frost
this AM at 7:30 but I was 1st so no ice on the ramp to deal with.

NOTE----- I learned a trick back many years ago when we used to duck hunt on the Mississippi River. When you put
your boat in the water and pull the trailer back out, stop just when the trailer clears the water and let the water
drain off the trailer before you pull on back up the ramp. Most of the water will go back in the lake instead of getting
the ramp wet and that turning into ice so the next guy trying to put in won't slide sideways and wreck his rig!!!

Anyway on with the days report;
It was cold but the fishing was good 'till about 11:00 then they turned the switch off. I could see plenty fish on the
Lowrance but they didn't want to play, ;) I tried several colors but nothing turned them on so I had 34 at 11:00
and could only add 3 more by 3:30 emoScratch I did keep 12 to clean for a good fish fry but didn't catch any
really big ones. I think the biggest was a little over 12 inches.
No pictures, when it's that cold and the wind is blowing a picture is out of the question. I didn't even take the camera
out with me today. May not have worked anyway in that cold. It did warm up in the afternoon and if you could get
out of the wind it was nice.

Bait of the day seemed to be Patriot, Bluegrass and Outlaw Special, didn't seem to make much difference, all produced
about the same amount. Most fish caught in 15 to 20 FOW and near the bottom.

One of the most interesting things of the day was that I only saw one boat from the time I put in until 10:30 or so.
I guess I was the only dummy out in the cold this morning, emoBigsmile emoGeezer

...great report...thanks for posting...wish we'd known you on the water...we'd hunted you down... and no, you weren't the only dummy...glad to see your smilin' face on CFF... good stuff...keep em comin'...

I remember one time when you and I put in at 19 degrees. That was the day that we rescued that new boater from a gill net that was stupidly stretched over 6' of water. It took us about 15 minutes to figure out how to cut the net off his prop because he didn't have tilt/trim on his motor.

Good report and outstanding morning of catching. Catfish1 and I put in when the fish weren't biting. Grin. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Thanks for the report, and the trick about letting your trailer drain before pulling it up the ramp. Went to Tims Ford several years back and a Game Warden salted the ramp so we could put the boat in the water. It was a complete sheet of ice from others pulling their trailer out.

Hal, I have missed your reports! YOu always post very useful info, and a great pointer tip too. Thanks for posting emoBigsmile

Hal, this is your first report since March 2013, glad you're back posting a trip report! Hope all is well and you'll be back at it big time! Hope to see you on the lake soon, I haven't been on it since a Sept. 29 trip with Kingfish. Been chasing smallies on the river w/o much luck.
