Am I reading the guide correctly? Can you kill a doe in Hamilton County this week? I do not remember that being the case in the past. If you look on the antlerless county guide in the hunting manual it looks like you can kill "1" doe this week without having to have a special doe permit. I am going to do a little deer hunting to try and put one more in my freezer. I was just checking the days to make sure it was open and saw that. If that is the case a single doe may find her way into my freezer. ;) Jmax

Jim, you are correct about the dates (12/20 - 12/26). However, I believe you have to have the type 094 license to harvest a doe. Someone please correct me if I am wrong...

Jim, why would you kill a doe when you got of these little 6 month and 18 month old bucks with can openers on their heads running around?LOL!!!!

Seriously, if you have the chance, go shoot a doe! TWRA thinks we have too many. I cant disagree...

The 094 license is for WMA's. All we need to take a doe in Hamilton County is the regular hunting license and the big game license.

This is my first year to hunt in TN but from what I have observed the buck/doe ratio is WAY out of proportion at least where I hunt in the Birchwood area. I see dozens of does every trip to the woods and have only seen a couple bucks.

I have been watching six does and one buck in my back yard pretty much everyday since May. Monday there were 11 does and no bucks.
Georgia tried this kill a doe here and there for many years and it did not work. Does still out numbered bucks pretty much statewide by 4 to one. A couple years ago Georgia went to 12 doe tags which could be harvested any day of seasons with any weapon that was legal for that season. You can even kill all twelve does on the same day legally if you want to. Even with the extreme measures the ratio is still out of whack statewide.
Hunters that want to only harvest the big bucks are their own worst enemy. It's not the macho thing to shoot does so many hunters just let them walk. Couple this thought process with overpriced deer processing fees and dwindling numbers of hunters every year and you have what we have. Too many does.

you can kill 3 does every day in unit L during the deer season. and they have a lot of deer. i am acuually heading up there thursday to hopefully kill some meat. best eating meat is the the young does, so i have no problem shooting does.

"No hunter quota but a Type 094 permit is required except for landowners hunting under the landowner exemption on their own land, Sportsman and Lifetime Sportsman license holders, and hunters who possess a type 167 permit. All ages need a Type 094 for county antlerless non-quota hunts, unless hunting under an exemption listed above."

When I read this, I take it as I need a type 094 license on top of my hunting license and big game license. If I am wrong, the state wins $21 extra from me... emoAngel

According to that you would be right FJ. Not surprising at all considering the fee grabber status of TN.

yes it is doe week with the right permit. me and my son went this morning and he put one on the ground at 9am. she was about 100 pounds before dressing it out. this makes number 2 for him this year. cant wait to juvy and neither can he.

Cheez,

Its a never-ending battle. We shot 14 does at our place last year and 11 the year before. We have taken zero bucks in the last 2 years. This is Putnam Co. TN. and they gave me ZERO tags for does durring gun season. meaning the only does we can kill leagally are durring archery and black powder. But 1/2 mile away in smith co. you can shoot all you want...its so frustrating. I say this because me and the guys on my property are looking to harvest a top-end buck, but are willing to do our managment work by taking what does we leagally can. We are not killing more bucks because of my managment plan, but its very rare to spend a weekend there and not see many bucks. For me this year, I've seen every inmature buck on the property and everytime I see a "shooter" he's moving 100mph chasing a doe. I'd love to get a good one, but I am content knowing they are just getting bigger every year and I'm not taking any iffy shots. We have a real nice drinking camp with a serious hunting problem!

Churly y'all are doing it right then. It will pay off for you too. Best thing is that you get to enjoy some good meat while doing the management thing.

Nope, just got off the phone with the Head quarters office. The above is a little misleading but there is a comma between the landowners and the others. They told me all of those did not need the type 94 permit. I have the Sportsman License and they said that is all I need to kill a doe during this week. emoDance Jmax

Go slay them slick heads and pack the freezer. I'm surprised TWRA hasn't opened the whole season up for does, but that's another discussion. Walker Co went either sex open all season a few years back.
