Sam Simons (CFF's shsimons) is a good man. He's an elementary school teacher and he offers an "incentive program," treating the winning youngsters to an end-of-the-year fishing trip. I am so proud that he lets me play along. It was supposed to be a morning trip, but a very ugly morning sky, driving rain and sporadic bolts of lightning changed that plan. But we salvaged the afternoon. Sam's 4th graders, Trent and Emili smoked 'em! The cats were hot and heavy right after the storm moved out. We started out concentrating on quantity, and it was working good. Then Sam figured out a "quality" pattern as well. For 2 or 3 hours the action was fast and furious... big cats, little cats and some in-between. With a little help from Sam, Trent put a 17 lb. blue in the boat using spinning tackle with 8 lb. test. Later he nailed a 14 and nobody had to help him ... even though he asked. Not to be outdone, Emili did massive battle against a 19 lb. drum ... and won on the same light tackle. There were several drag-screaming runs. It was an awesome fun afternoon and one I know those youngsters will remember it for a while. For what it's worth... when the sun came out the bite shut down like flippin' off a light switch. No matter... our fun had been had. Life is good and gettin' better every day. Enjoy the pics... I think Sam will add a few more.
