I've been torn the last few days about making a gun purchase. I've visited several pawn shops and gun dealers around the area. I had my dads glock here in chattanooga for a few years and he needs it back now so i want to buy something to replace it. Unfortunately i can't afford a glock at the moment. I have looked at jimenz arms, hi point, and bersa. Already ruled out the Jimenz arms due to the fact out of the 10 forums or so i read reviews from not one of them was positive. The Hi-point c9 is kinda what i'm leading towards. It's reasonably priced and almost all the reviews i've read have been pretty good. I shot one a few years ago and it was fairly accurate for the money. The Bersa i had never heard of till today. It seems to be built alittle better than the C9 and a little lighter. I've never shot one or known anyone that has. Any input on the situation would help?

Also anyone have anything similar to these for sale?

Spend $50 or so more and get a Smith and Wesson Sigma 9mm or .40s&w

They are much better guns than any of the ones you mentioned. The Bersa Thunder guns are nice, but the .380 is somewhat mediocre and expensive to shoot compared to a run of the mill 9 or 40. Check GT distributers too. They had a Ruger semi auto for $250 last time I was in there.

I know you've already ruled out Jimenez but I just want to say that those guns are the most poorly manufactured weapons I've ever seen. A Hi Point is alright to start out with but I also say save up the extra $ and get a S & W, with some searching you could find one for 275 or so for a good quality weapon.

I would suggest waiting a little longer save up the extra cash and get the Glock. You won't be sorry. Or maybe look around for a used Glock.

Buy used. What caliber are you looking at? I would recomend a .40 cal or larger for your only gun. 9mm's will be cheaper though. There is a S&W Sigma in the Chattanoogan.com classifieds for $275. Bersa's are decent guns.

Rather than purchasing a lesser quality semi auto pistol have you considered a revolver? A decent dependable potent revolver like maybe a Charter Arms can be had for not much more than $200 used. Get yourself a Charter .357 and save up for the Glock.

High point is nothing more than a paper weight. THey are not built for day to day shooting and will fall apart if you do. THey are for chunking into a night stand or truck and just leaving there. Don't get it. I wasn't too impressed with the Sigma series either. I got rid of mine and got a $350 Ruger P97. Awesome pistol I think and extremely durable.

No one mentioned Kel-Tec and I think they are great for the money, specifically the .380.

I agree. However I wouldn't have this gun as my only one. Glock 23 or 29 would be my top 2 choices If I was only allowed 1.

I wouldn't want to have a .380 as my only gun, unless I carried it all the time. It's just a tiny round. I got a 9mm and I would highly suggest the same like the Hi-Point C9 because price of ammo for shooting and it's got quite a bit more power for self/home defense.

To be honest though I would save up to get out the the Hi-Point/Bersa/Jimejam Arms price range and step into the Ruger/S&W range, going from a Glock to any one of those first three is going to be a real letdown.

But, if you just can't swing it, having a gun, whatever it may be, is better than having no gun.

I just bought a ruger P95 9mm. For the price ($315) you can't beat the quality. This gun will digest any ammo you put in it and will keep firing. The Ruger P - series are built like tanks. I am very accurate with mine. I would suggest that you look in this direction if you want a great quality gun for the price.

sig p6 9mm is my favorite and i allso have a rugerp345 with lazer sights it is a bit big for a carry gun but i do carry it some but i use the sig most of the time gave 350 for the sig and have around 500 in the ruger

The ruget P-Series are best carried in the small of your back. They surprising fit very well there and are almost impossible to detect.

+1 on the Sig P6. I found mine on Gun Broker for $415.00 shipped w/4 mags. Ex W. German police gun w/ holster wear but like new internals. 8+1 capacity and very concealable in a paddle holster.

If you are buying a hand gun for protection buy a quality gun. If the time comes and you have to use it, you dont want the gun to fail and lay down on you. If it does you may be layin down when it is over. Save your money and get a quality weapon. JMHO

Went gun shopping with a friend the other day. We looked hard at the SW M&P, Glock, Beretta PX4, and Springfield xDM. At the end of the day, he bought the SW M&P because he felt it fit his hand better than the others. He also bought the .357 barrell to interchange.

I personally like the Springfield, even though it is the more expensive of the group, due to its match grade barrel. I do agree that you want something you have confidence in if you ever have to use it. Like good insurance...

From what I have shot, and I am no expert...
Glock - Durable, dependable (and the new ones have the adjustable backstraps), thousands of aftermarket parts
Springfield XDM - Match grade barrell, great accuracy
S&W - Made in USA, dependable
Beretta - Seems to have less recoil than the others.

Smith and wesson sigma is a great gun for the money. $310.00 comes with 2 hi cap mags. you can get a 9 or 40 in it.
