When I got up this morning and walked outside, the nip in the air, the birds calling in the distance and a couple of geese flying over my mind went to hunting. emoRolleyes Yep only 52 days, 6 hours, 49 minutes and 21 seconds till deer season starts for this year!!!! emoApplause Should be a good one....I saw two big bucks with velvet horns the other day out in a field by the house, got so excited I had to call Churly, he is about as stupid as I am hunting bambies. Lots of deer this year from the looks of it. Time to go put out some food plots and start to plan the placement of new stands if you are putting any new ones out this year. I could use a little cooler weather. It will be here before you know it. emoSmile Jmax

Yea this weather is getting my twist up. Seeing some small bucks in the yard nothing real big yet. Little concerned about the mast this year around the house. Plenty of hickory nuts but no acorns on my white oaks. Had a mountain oak (CHESTNUT OAK) blow down last week and not the first nut on it. I hope that little freeze we had last year didn't effect this year's mast.

The cool air in the mornings has my neck swollen!!! Got a baby due in January, so I may have to hunt closer to home late in the season. Either way I am looking forward to cool mornings in the trees, bow-in-hand.

As for the mast crop, I have noticed a lot of fruit and nuts in all the trees. While fishing today, I saw a red oak hanging over the water and it was loaded up. I've also seen a lot of muscadines and persimmons that will ripen in the next few months. Usually that means hunting is a bit tougher as the deer dont have to travel far searching for food. I did notice a bunch of deer movement late in the day early this week during the heat wave. Must have been the moon phase or something?
