Harrison bay state park ramp

I was curious to know how the boat ramp is at Harrison bay state park is. I have used several but I have not used this one. I like the area and have been to some on 58 which some I wasn’t all to keen on.

Be careful as I read on here somebody put a big rock on the ramp or close causing one boater to damage his prop really bad.

Be careful leaving Harrison Bay. It gets pretty shallow on the left side as you are entering the main lake.

I will watch for the rock for sure. When I go out am I better off staying to the right side when leaving? I just bought the boat so I’m looking for somewhere to learn the boat and be sure to stay out of shallow water for now.

You will see the stumps on the left side when you are headed to the river so stay to the marina side. Just remember red right returning on your buoys. It is very low right now.

Hug the main gas dock going out and head straight for the no wake sign. If you have a GPS enabled bird unit, buy a Lakemaster southeast V4 map chip and never worry about running aground again.

If you got lowrance or bird just set your shallow water offset and you won’t have to worry

You will need premium plus card for loqrance to do the offset

I have a garmon 94sv with lake chip. I will look at it tonight and play with the settings.

Rock got my prop last Saturday. I could see quite a few big rocks on there after the damage was done. I always put in in the middle of the ramp.

if youre just learning the/to boat and lake this may not be the time.......might be worth waiting a couple of weeks til the water comes up or you could have a VERY expensive learning experience.

Thank you for the reply’s. I have been twice this week and I know it may sound over cautious but I use the trolling motor to get a little past the fuel dock then I fire up the motor for a few while I get things ready. Mainly, I have been using the trolling motor to just fish. I’m not going to learn the lake until the water goes up.

Amen, to that. Several years ago I took my brand new boat out of Harrison and proceeded to plow a few yards of mud. I almost turned around and went back to trailer. If you are not familiar with this lake when the water is down, you will get surprised.
