This morning the wife and I got up at 5:30 with a plan to go to Chickamauga Lake and try our luck at catfishing. I had read on the forum that the Harrison Bluffs area was pretty good. We went to Harrison Bay State Park and launched, then took about a five minute ride over to the bluffs area. I anchored about 50 yards off shore, right at a drop off where the depth changed from 25 to 34 feet.

From that point, things went something like this.

Bait wife’s line with chicken livers, and watch her drop it into the water.
Begin to tie a hook and sinker on my line.
Wife “I have a fish on, help me Tennfisher!”
Get the net and remove wife's catfish, place in livewell.
Rebait wife's line.
Return to tying on my hook and sinker.

Watch the line singing off wife's reel until it snaps – 20 pound test line didn’t begin to turn that sucker, we never did see it.
Finally fishing tying my line, bait it up, and give it to wife while I am repairing her broken line.

Return to tying on a new rig for wife, while she is fishing my rod.

Final Score: wife 6, Tennfisher 0. But a great time was had by all.

That is just too funny. I got skunked by my partner today also but I don't think he is going to rub it in like you are going to get. LOL

I know the feeling if I rerally want to catch a mess of fish all I have to do is take my wife. She catches fish while I tie on hooks bait lines and take off fish. It is amazing But she loves it and I love to have her go with me when she can.

Let me say this: "If you have a spouse who is willing to go on a fishing or hunting trip with you, Be very thankful." If I were you, I would not push my luck by refusing to go shopping went she asks you to go with her. emoHeart emoHeart emoHeart emoBigsmile

That sounds typical of my trips with some of my friends. I tend to take a lot of people that don't fish much and I really want them to catch a bunch and so I'm always alternating poles fixing one and them fishing with the other. It's great that you have a wife that will fish with you. Mine just isn't inerested yet.

Listen to what you hear Tennfisher. Having a wife that fishes with you is rare. Having one that actually likes it is even more rare. You did a great job of keeping her interested in fishing by letting her catch so many. Good report too.

Yeah i know what yall mean about having a wife that likes to go fishing. My wifes theory of fishing is laying on a beach towel on the back of the boat. emoRolleyes. Dont get me wrong, i usually fish alone anyway so the company is nice. Plus guys just dont look right laying in my boat in a little bikini. emoBigsmile. Now if i could just get her to stop telling me to slow down while running. emoScratch

I hear what you are saying Cheez, and I am grateful. She really had a blast. Before Saturday I don't think she had ever caught anything other than a few small white bass. Here is a picture of her largest 5 catfish, with my size 13 shoe for perspective. Nothing to really brag about, but it really got her pumped up.

Size don't matter on this one. You have every right to brag about your days accoplishments. I'd rather have a stringer like that for my table, harvested with my family, than any trophy in the lake.emoBigsmile

Great story Tennfisher, but are you bragging about the size of the fish or you size 13 shoe?emoScratch
All of us that have wives that go fishing with us are very lucky I know I am.
That is a great story, congrads.

Ask Saltwatts how he feels today.;) His wife smoked us all for big fish on Watts Bar.

I'm telling you what, if it hadn't been for her, we would have zeroed. She put our only two keepers in the boat. That smallmouth was also her personal best bass, so I was really thrilled for her. I asked her what she was going to do with her $70 bucks she won for big fish, and she said "you can put it towards a new rod."

She is definitely a keeper! emoSmile
