Has anyone done any good on the crappie at the chick yet this year? I am sure that last year the fellas that were crappie fishing out of 58 were doing good on the crappie by now. So far I have not heard of anyone doing all that well yet. Has anyone done any good or know of anyone that has done any good on the chick? The only ones I am catching are few and far between. Last year they had moved out and were starting to group up in deep water on the edges of creeks out in the lake. If you find the small shad schools not to far from them were the crappie. It was fun to drift fish with a small jig or minnow just off the bottom. So far this year this pattern has not developed for me. emoCool Jmax

I spoke with someone on the lake yesterday that fishes crappies most of the time and he said the same thing about things being slow. In years past, it seems like the crappies are more consistent later in the winter, like Jan. and Feb.

Well polo I can confirm that because last year in February I did the best and so did everyone else out on the lake but we were also catching them now. You can tell when they really start because when you go over the 58 bridge you will see 10 to 20 boats out there all doing the same thing and that is fishing the edge of the old creek bed of wolftever where it is out in the lake. There are still old tree stumps on the edge of the creek and the crappies seem to really relate to that but so far they are not there best I can tell.emoCool Jmax

I have always wondered what all those guys were doing. I knew it was crappie fishing but I didn't know what they were looking for electronics wise.

The crappie we fished for last weekend really wanted the bait close to the structure...we set out a marker as we fished and if you did not cast within 3 feet of it, you did not catch a fish...all fish were small, but we marked larger fish there earlier in the morning and then the bigger ones moved.
