HBird 788ci

What would cause the bottom reading to become less and less as the water gets deeper on HBIRD 788c, Have I accidently changed something and don't realize it?

You might have turned the sensitivity down accidentally.

I'll check that. Whats the best sensitivity setting?

If you have settings out of wack and can't resolve them use the "Restore Factory Defaults" and it will reset the unit to factory settings.

That didn't fix it. Any other ideas===It shows a good return shallow but fades away to a light blue in deep

I have the 798ci and Im still learning how to use it.Tell you what I did was youtube humming bird side iminging and it will pull up all kinds of stuff.It has realy helped me out alot.
