Help A New Guy Cat Fish Chicamauga

Morning all,

I'm a new resident to Chattanooga - like to find some proven places and methods for cat fishing in Chickamauga.

Appreciate any suggestions for any honey holes and baits best.

A lot of people are going to give you suggestions on bait, Shad are my personal preference. Preferable Threadfins if you can catch then running, and if the Gizzard Shad havent over run them. Directly Below the dam is a sure thing most of the time, if i cant hook up on anything there i usually go down to the channel in front of the boat ramp in Lupton City, there are tons of other channels and drop offs where the blues like to sit, these are just a couple.

I like to fish near ledges where the channel comes right up to the bank. South of hwy 60 bridge is a good spot on the right. South of hbsp is another good spot on the left. I like live bait weather it is shad bluegill or hearing they all seem do do well at different times of the year. Good luck.

I don't target catfish anymore, but when I did, I had a lot of success by fishing the 40' old river channel edge. I would drift in the current and use the trolling motor to stay on or very near the edge. Usually did a snake curve between 38 and 42 feet. Like Rsimms would say, any dead meat will do for bait with skipjack being best. Butterfly a bluegil and hold onto your rod real tight. I liked to fish outside bends in the old river channel. I never just aimlessly drifted like a lot of folks do. Seems mindless to do this. I am a structure fisherman and the catfish relate to structure just other gamefish do. emoGeezer
