Help,looking for new fishfinder /gps unit

Ok guys I know some of you out there are experts with electronics. I am looking to upgrade my fishfinder with a better unit and a gps unit, Its all kind of overwhelming when you start looking at the different models, features, and linking then and then add on the different map packages. good grief it ends up being more info than anyone other than a phd just to figure out what u need. Any pointers on choosing the right unit, what to stay awaly from and so forth?emoScratch . all help is appreciated.

OK THIS MIGHT HELP....I'VE GOT THE LOWRENCE 339 DUEL FREQUENCIES INTERNAL ANTENNA AND AM WELL PLEASED ...I THINK THEY NO LONGER MAKE THE 300 SERIES IN THE SONAR GPS MODEL ...IT WAS REPLACED WITH THE 500 SERIES 520 BEING THE BASE MODEL ......LCX(VARIOUS MODEL NUMBERS) IS THE STEP UP WITH LARGER SCREEN SIZES PRELOADED MAPS ECT..... BUT YOU KNOW ALL THIS ALREADY IF YOU HAVE DONE YOUR HOME WORK......WHEN IN DOUBT BUY THE BEST YOU CAN AFFORD...THE DEAL WITH THEM LINKED TOGETHER IS GREAT IF ONE FAILS YOU CAN MOVE THE OTHER ONE( SAME WIRING HARRNESS )....IF I HAD TO DO OVER I WOULD HAVE GOT THE LARGER SCREEN SIZE ...I'M ON THE VERGE OF MOVING MY 339 TO THE FRONT AND BUYING A LCX FOR THE BACK .......CHECK CABELAS AS THEY CHARGE_ NO _TAX AND _NO _SHIPPING FOR PURCHASES OVER 500 DOLLARS (I'M GEORGIA RESIDENT TAX MIGHT BE DIFFERENT FOR YOU)..MIGHT BE ENOUGH SAVINGS THERE TO GO UP TO THE NEXT MODEL...HARDEST THING I HAD TO DO WAS LEAVE MY FISHING STUFF AT HOME AND AND TAKE THE USER MANUAL AND LEARN HOW TO USE IT ON THE WATER .... THEN FOUND OUT THEY HAVE A DOWNLOAD VERSION FOR YOUR HOME COMPUTER ...GET ON THEIR WEB SITE DOWNLOAD EM AND SEE WHICH ONE YOU LIKE THE BEST .....IT'S PRETTY COOL TO SIT AT HOME AT NIGHT OR RAINEY DAYS AND LEARN HOW TO USE IT ...

THe lowrance LMS units are great units. I have owned 2 X15, and the LMS 350a. Great units no problems, my only advice is to get a color unit, what ever you decide to go with. My X15 was not color and it was tough to see when the sun was at the right angle. Hope this helps. Check Ebay some great deals on used higher end stuff for a reasonable price.

ive got the humminbird 797 with side imaging. its has gps, sonar and everything else you would need. it is a little pricey at around 1000 dollars but it is worth it once you learn to read it.
