help on a check engine light

I am having trouble w/ my check engine light coming on while idling. When I get up on plane it goes off. The alarm doesn't always go off. This doesn't happen every time I'm out. Could it be a water pump problem? I always check my oil level and I seem to have a good stream of water coming out of the pee hole. Had new plugs put in this year too. Any help would be appreciated.

what kind of motor? If its a merc you may have water in the gas filter. Need to check the filter and drain it out.
