A friend of mine wants to go to Watts bar to try catfishing. Can anyone suggest a place to focus? I dont mind above or below the dam, as long as its not right in the tailtrace waters. Is there a calm area right below the dam, like the Chick, or Nick, that would be good?

I went out with a guide a couple of years ago and we stayed within site of the dam most of the day. We were above the dam. I believe we fished the channel edges where there were irregularities. You may want to run over it with the depthfinder to find these spots. He had us anchored away from the spots so we had to fight the fish a long distance but thats what I remember him showing us on the depthfinder. His name is Tom Evans and we had a great time.

Thanks for the advice Craig.

I will try that, just not 100% confident on totaly new waters.

Spur you need to look up Craddock's posts on the Tennessee forum of the BOC. All he talks about is Watts Bar cafishing.

Hey Erick ,I am not sure that its hardly late enough yet, and I believe the bit has been seriously dampened by the lack of flow. But, last fall we slayed the blues out from 6&7 spillway and even with the wing wall, chicken livers were good, so was minnows. Sometimes you will find them closser to the dam as there is a deep hole about 30 feet deep depending on chick lake level. later on when they really drop the water for winter, watch out for the steel boxes about 15-20 yards out from the wing wall. Drum King said there is some more steel near the lock discharge....good luck.....;)
