Tater has the exact numbers but since it sounds like those of you who were not there want to know so here is a little of what I remember. There was only one limit brought to the scales, wieght was 10.15 lbs. and it had three spots and two largemouth that made it up. Second was I believe was 7.14 lbs and I think it was three fish. Third had big bass which was only 3.3something I believe. Than came a group of us that were right around 4.5 lbs. from fourth I think down to seventh. Tater said he was going to post the weight and names of I believe the top ten folks. We had sixteen boats and paid out about $650.00 in cash, so not a bad day considering.emoBigsmile

I guess it isn't necessary to say the bite was off and even though the water was over 60 everwhere I went today the lake had droped about a foot since last weekend and I feel that shut down the bite. CCSM and I had our chance today but couldn't get the weight into the boat. Broke one good one off on a worm and had a very nice one just come unbuttoned on a buzz. Boated two nice keepers but needed the two we lost.emoBang Our fish catching baits today were a junebug six inch finesse worm and an seven inch blackberry zoom lizard texas rigged. Also found some 64.8 degree water and caught three(one keeper) on a black buzz with a black twister trailer. We did not catch a single fish on a trap and last weekend that was our best bait.emoScratch We boated eleven today in total.

For those at the weighin that wondered what was taking so long to settle the money is somehow we ended up with $15.00 more than we should have had. I finally just gave an extra $10 to first and a $5 to second.emoConfused I think maybe we should let tater do the money every time,...I am not use to someone having MORE than they should.emoWorthy

We still had a blast and want to thank tater for putting it on. Lots of fun, wejust needed a better bite.emoCool Jmax

What did everyone else catch their fish on???? I was wondering what everyone tried. If you had to do it over again what would you change????

I caught my one non-keeper spot on a spinnerbait right up from the boat ramp. I think I would have ventured a little farther back in the creeks, and fished with more soft plastics, at least till the wind picked up. We more or less went exploring. I had never been there, and it is a fishy looking place.

One boat did run to Nirvana/Goose Pond. Tarheel said that he ran there for part of the day. I am planning to post a thread about CFF3 called "Lessons learned from CFF3" and am hoping that many if not most of the guys/gals would post to let us know what, if anything they would have done differently.

My partner and I caught both our keepers on a 1/2 oz chart/white spinnerbait.Several non keepers on a 1/2 oz Cotton Cordell Super Spot. One keeper was caught in a spawning bay near Goosepond and the other near a dock in a slough.A very large fish broke off a spinnerbait and then jumped up and tried to throw it back at us but it was stuck in his grill pretty good. We had a great time and look forward to fishing with ya'll again soon.

Hey tarheel congrats on third place and big bass. I guess your investment paid off some didn't it.emoSmile Not the weights we thought we would have but everyone sounded like they cuaght some kind of fish today. I am looking forward to the next one also.emoCool Jmax

Well, I had a blast but a very long, long day. It started poorly, there was a HUGE traffic jam and a couple of us got stranded at the ridge cut for an hour. This was just a foreshadowing of what the rest of my day would be like. I'm not giving excuses but man, I am not used to fishing that kind of water. I like to hit points and humps and cover, it seemed like everyone I saw was sitting in a creek channel chunking to the shallower water. No real strategy or targeting anything specific, just chunking and winding.

Anyway, I finally caught a decent spot out of a no name creek just above Racoon Creek, but on the other side. It crused a 3/4 oz Stanley Wedge, white/ chart with a chart trailer. I caught a largemouth, the exact same size, 14.75" out of Crow Creek, yes just chunkin and winding a 3/4 oz Chrome Rat-L trap with red hooks. That was it, not another single bite.

I tried a buzzbait early in the day and that just didn't work the way I pictured it working on the drive down. Heck, I don't know if dynamite would have helped my cause today. Still had fun and look forward to donating some cash to a future tourny.

I know what you mean Davo. I am used to fishing creeks with close to 30ft at the mouth, no grass, and fishing structure at depths of 10 to 20 feet regularly. Those shallow creeks just don't fit into the game plans that I am used to but I am trying to get more used to fishing shallow for the bass as I think that I target spotted bass much more than I should, even though I have a blast doing it. To win tournaments you usually have to have a good largemouth or two as 5x3lb spotts are not very common stringers. I was thrown a curveball too, I almost struck out. By the way Davy, do you have a locker? emoSmile or do you sing for a 60's, 70's band?emoAngel

with the temps in the mid 60's it seems like there should have been some fish on the beds.Did anyone see any or try to fish for bedding fish?

Ranman, I think CCSM and I finally found some bed fish and that was the ones we caught on a buzz. I had one just a hair short that I picked up on a buzz and right behind me in the same place CCSM had a hit on a fluke type bait and it got half of it. The wind was blowing about 35 there and as the boat blew by the place there was a big stump there in about 2 feet you could see that I bet it was a male I caught and a female CCSM had hit and they were setting up house on that stump. Often in areas where there is a soft bottom the bass will actually spawn on top of stumps. The water there was 64.8 degrees and the wind was so bad it had some wave action that made it so you couldn't see the bottom well. So sight fishing was out. We could only fan cast and hope to go over one. I really want to go back there and spend some more time in there. We found it so late we didn't get to really work it like I would have liked. But in about an hour with extreme wind I boated three nice fish I think all males on a buzz and had another big one come off that I hooked, got her turned, and when I tried to force her out of the grass and vines in there she just came unbuttoned. The two short males were right at like 14 + inchesemoBang , just wasn't meant to be. But I would do it all agian, still fun. emoCoolJmax

I hate that I missed another one but it's really hard for me to fish on Saturdays.sounds like everyone had a great time.Maybe I'll make the next one.

Thanks to everyone for a great day fishing at CFF3. A special thanks to Tater for heading it up. Like Jmax said, we had a tough day, although 11 fish was fair for the conditions. If I would have helped some emoRedface we could have got into the money, but I guess I did alright netting Jmax's fish emoLaugh emoLaugh . I have a theory that TVA dropped the G a foot or so on Friday night right before our event. If that is true, then I think that about the time the fish moved shallow, many of them were pulled right back off when the water dropped. Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. It was nice to see everyone again and meet some new friends. Congrats to Flip and Catch for the win! Good job. Got to meet and talk to NRG some and I like someone who does their own thing!! (the man knows how to dress!!!!!) I'm looking forward to future events and maybe the majority of boats can bring limits to the scales. Thanks to Jmax for letting me tag along. Like I said, I wasn't any help, but I had a good time.

Good Fishing,
