Looking for some info to get on a hog hunt. Myself and a few guys at work have been talking about it for 2 years now and would like to look into a trip not too far away. Ga, Al, Tn..... Anyone have any numbers or links?

Hey Billy you should book one of those hunts where you let the dogs bay the pig and you finish him off with a knife. That would be great.

look up wilderness hunting lodge in montery tn its high fence but it is fun and they have dogs.

My buddies in Waycross, GA hunts the swamps with dogs and either releases, keeps or kills with a Knife. If you go down to the farming counties in south Georgia for a few days, By simply knocking on a few doors you can gain a good friend and have all you want.. You must be on your toes if you plan to harvest a hog without dogs. The Hogs are much smarter than Deer and way smarter than the hunter.

Been on one two years ago. We took ten guys and came home with the coolers maxed out. Its a pit bull hunt. You dont do much, unless you want to.

If my guy is still in business, his name is Brad Paul and his number is 229-310-6635. Havent spoke since then so I dont know....

On a side note. We are waiting to recieve our pig tag for the year from twra. I hung 3 trail cams yesterday out there and the pig sign is thick!

churly I hunt my own land where I live I thought they changed it to where you could shoot hogs anytime you saw them it may be different on leased land but that's just what I thought. I did not know you needed a tag

I grew up on a farm where we raised all kinds of animals from horses to guinea (sp) fowl. I can attest to the fact that the pig is far and away the smartest animal on the farm. A big boar is also the meanest animal on the farm. If he can knock a man off his feet, he will kill him. My father-in-law raised feeder pigs and when he entered the pasture/pen that contained the big boar, he carried an 18 inch 2 X 4 that had been whittled down to a round handle on one end. He drilled a hole in the handle and installed a rawhide boot lace in it. He would wrap that rawhide boot lace around his wrist and hit that big boar right between the eyse when he snuck up on him from the rear. That subdued him that day, but the next day was a repeat. From day to day, he did not seem to learn; otherwise he was smart.

There is one thing for sure, I am neither brave or stupid enough to face a wild hog with just a knife. In my opinion that's kinda like fighting a grizzly with a switch.

One other thing: Large stock hogs develop a tatse for live chickens as they age. They eat them while the chicken is still squawking. Beak, feet, feathers and all are gulped right down. Horrible thing to watch. We had to put chicken wire over the pens of our older hogs to keep the free range chickens out. The good news is that they can be broken from eating chickens. All one has to do is kill a rabbit and feed it to the hog and he will never again eat a chicken. I saw this with my own eyes.

Thanks Justin. I was hoping you would post on this. Some of those stories you guys told on the dock that one year were funny as hell. Is this the same guy? </p>

Yes it is. If you wanna dog hunt, those boys get it on. I suggest january-march.

Hank,

In order to take a pig on any private land in TN. You must have one of these tags! If you are the owner, call the region III office in Crossville, its real easy to get. As a landowner you get a tag and up to 10 other people can get on it. Once you have the tag, its year round, no limit. You can do everything but run em with dogs and poison them pretty much. THE PENALTIES FOR PURSUING OR TRANSPORTING FERAL PIGS IS BIG BAD STUFF. GO TO www.tnwildlife.org for the official laws. One of my leases is full of hogs and we gonna try to hit em hard this year. I hung cameras last week and walked up on a bunch of small ones. I needed a grenade.
