Started out by getting skunked for the first two hours...the bass were not where we left them last SaturdayemoScratch Don't you just love the unpredictability of the pre-spawn! After a week of warm days and fair nights, the water temp was only 53...just like last Saturday. I'm not sure whether the near freezing overnight temperature or some other factor, such as a front, moved them, but the bass pulled back to the main channel and suspended on breaklines from 9-12 feet. When we finally found them, it was nearly a bass on every cast if contact was made with any type of cover, such as rocks or brush. Most bass (all spots...no LM?) were caught on a Excalibur/Bomber Fat-Free Shad with a green back, however, the initial bite came from a C-Rigged Zoom Lil' Critter Craw used to locate structure. Didn't catch anything enormous, the heaviest went 2.7, but the quantity plus the simple delight of figuring them out made up for it.

PS. If you are into crappie, check out the Gunstocker Creek channel near its intersection with the Hiawassee.

did you get back into gunstocker today?I got a full week ahead of me but I might have an early day to get out this week.I'm going to go crazy if I can't get my boat out soon!

The Gunstocker Creek channel is currently around 8' at the mouth and quickly goes to a couple feet as you approach the bridge. I could be wrong, but the water level actually appeared to be lower than last week. After figuring out that the bass were in deeper water, we just fished the mouth at the right corner with all the laydowns. You know where I'm talking about? The upside down yellow bucket placed on a stick up on the bank? There is a pretty good drop there with a few submerged crappie brushpiles about 10 feet off of the bank. Around 5pm, we counted 18 crappie boats in the Gunstocker Creek channel. If you decide to hit it, make sure to go past the creek mouth to the red channel marker by the island on the right before cutting in.

Great info Jason, I know what you mean when you figure those boogers out. I get a lot more satisfaction out of it if there is a bit of thinking involved rather than being able to stay on the same pattern. Great specific info too. I would expect a few persons checking it out sometime this week. You always seem to figure them out, I'd like to understand how you put the pieces together so well.

I worked my butt off today so I could take off Wed to fish. I don't know if I'm gonna go to the Hiwassee or go up to Parksville yet.I am thinking about fishing a tournament on Parksville on the 25th so I'm kinda leaning in that direction right now. Thanks for the info!
