Hey all I fished the river a lil bit this afternoon.. wind to much for the lake for me .. burrr. I did catch a few bass, nothing big .. couple pounds each. The only Big thing I caught was a beaver, was fishing a crankbait on a gravel flat near some trees, and all of the sudden my line stopped dead then started moving fast .. then he came up an gave his tail a big wallop on the surface .. and he was gone .. dont know who was scared more me or the beaver.  I thought for a min that I had world record bass on the line

Wow, I've never heard of that. Usually beavers get out of the way long before I ever get a cast near them. Alligators on the other hand are fun to have follow topwaters and pull them away just when they move in for the strike. Bats are fun to cast to also but they normally pull out before they get the hooks. Pelicans are a pain on the line too, you have to be careful or they will "peck your eyes out".

Well thats a first for me too!I've never heard of anyone hooking a beaver.I have hooked a bat before, and almost caught a racoon one time.

I believe he was just swimming by and my lure and he swam thru the path of the lure or visa versa .. I never saw him .. well that is untill he came up and smacked his tail.. was a first for me too .. I have caught all kinds of wierd stuff fishing, bat, snake, frog, serveral odd pieces of clothing, shoes, condom, dead cow, dead dog, even a dead person .. that was really grose !! yuck yuck yuck .. threw the rod in the water after pulling up the body .. never wanna see that rod again, certainly was not touching the body to remove my lure.. just went to nearest house and called police... turns out was a guy that went missing week b4.. he had been shot in the head 4 times so they tell me .. I did'nt stay around for a good look. </p>

Fish with me .. never know what may happen lol

I thought I was the only one that had done that. Was fishing under a major highway and hooked something that would not let go. Jerked and jerked but it would not budge. Finally just thought to heck with it I am going to break my line and loose my bait. Pulled real hard and it came free. Reeled in the bait and thought what is on my lure?emoScratch Just out of habit I grabbed it and started working it off before I really looked at it. That's about when I smelled it and oh'boy it stunk emoVomit made me sick. I looked at it a little closer and it was a piece of scalp and someones HAIR!!!!emoEek About that time it floated up. They think the person had committed suicide by jumping off the bridge. Had gotten wedged in the mud and muck and when I hook it that's when it broke free of the mud.emoConfused Jmax

NorthRiverGeek and Jmax!!!! What are the odds??? Hooking a dead body has been one of the things my buddies and I used to scare eachother with night fishing growing up. I can only imagine what that must have been like...although some of the junkfish I have caught might have been uglier emoBigsmile

Jmax - were you were using a SILVER BUDDY - Those things will snag anything! If so, that story alone should get you a sponsorship...

Now HogDaddy has a great story about a bridge-jumper he saved if you ever get a chance to go fishing with him... emoEek

I entangled a pelican once casting a spoon into a school of boiling bluefish from the beach - birds were all over and it flew right into my line. I immediately cut the line and I watched it flying about 20 feet and then falling back into the Gulf numerous times. It finally flew free from the line it was tangled in after about 30minutes.. I hated to see it struggle for all that time but it was too far out for me to get to to help.

On a lighter note, I caught a water turkey in Florida one time. I was fishing on a pond with shiners, and was catching a few bass. There were some kids that saw me catching fish that came down to watch, and about that time, my rod started twitching. I set the hook, and was amazed that when it jumped, it flew 20' in the air and nose dived. I reeled it in, and grabbed it around the neck, and took the hook out of its leg. I let it go and it flew out and dived in and was gone. Those kids thought that was the funniest thing they had ever seen.l

I was fishing in a boat with a couple of friends at the lake at Fall Creek Falls. One buddy asked if I minded if he took my rod rigged with a Rapala top water and fished with it for a moment. I said sure, go ahead. He fished for awhile and then hooked a water snake. That snake was a lot PO'd. What was funny was that the friend reeled the snake in against the boat with me and another buddy, calmly laid my rod down and said "I'm through with your rod." I wound up taking the snake loose from the lure and I thought he was going to jump out of the boat when I brought it in to take the hooks out. That's what loaning your rod to friends will bring you!

I've caught snakes, turtles, frogs, but no people yet except when I was fishing for them.
