Got out and fished for a little while yesterday in my buddy's boat.Water was moving a little bit but seemed really dead for some reason. No bait fish on the surface anywhere and no fish chasing minnows at all.We did manage to catch a few off of a single tree on the main channel using T-rigged finnesse worms.Bass wouldn't look at a crankbait or a spinnerbait at all and all of our fish came off of that one tree.We did have a few bites off of a small rockpile on the main channel but we were moving a little to fast to really fish it as well as I thought we should have.I don't know what the water temp was but it did feel a little warm to me for this time of year.Water was also down about three feet from summertime levels.Oh yeah I forgot, we did catch two or three more off of a retaining wall that is also on the main river on plastic worms. All fish were in the same depth range, about 10-12ft. and sitting right in the current! the fish on the tree were on the upstream side in the current and the one's on the retaining wall were sitting off the bank about15 yards and not behind a rock or stump or anything!Just open water.Although all three areas are within a few yards of the main channel drop-off.Great day to be out there as we had the entire river to ourselves!

I'll be hitting the Hiwassee Saturday and I hope they are more active. From what I've read on other threads, the fishing has been slow everywhere.

look for the giant laydown across the river from price creek just upstream from sugar creek. It's the only piece of cover on that entire bank!We probably didn't catch all of the fish that were on that thing! Also the rock piont going in to agency creek holds fish this time of year but it's a community hole.

Has it started getting skinny up around in there yet? I am always scared to death of hitting stuff with my lower unit when the water drops on the Hi.

Yep. Really gotta watch it over there now if you're out of the main channel. I got stuck twice on sand bars last year.Once was a 30 mph wind i couldn't fight and the other was a dying t-motor battery and a house boat wake! That last one really ticked me off because I could see it coming up the river as I was coming out of price creek through a little cut and there was nothing I could do!I put two brand new optima blue tops in the next week.

Ranman, one of the best largemouth I caught last fall was on that laydown...first time I ever tried a brushhog. We'll definitely check that out. There should be a lot of that type of cover exposed along the main channel. How about the creek channel leading into Price Creek? No baitfish?

didn't fish over there but did fish the next cove down from it.There are three brushpiles underwater that hardley anyone knows about that we fish but we didn't catch anything off of them. The only baitfish we saw were in a little cove across from eede's sp? bluff.I caugh another one of my famous bad ass bluegills in there but no bass.
